T&N BUYERS GUIDE - ELECTRONIC ACCESS
The Buyer's Guide electronic files are provided in both ASCII
(text-only/no graphics) as well as PostScript (integrated text &
graphics) format. These files will be available for world-access as of
10. January, 1991.
To access the electronic version of the January-June 1991 edition of
the T&N Buyer's Guide, perform the following:
1. DFS (Distributed File Service) -- To use DFS to access the Buyer's
Guide, mount the DFS access point, as in the following example:
$ dfscp :== $dfs$control
$ dfscp mount eng.nac.pubs.public tnp_disk
%MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, .ENG.NAC.PUBS.PUBLIC mounted on _DFSCnnnn: (INTER)
After mounting the disk, you can also print directly to the queue of
your choice with:
$PRINT TNP_DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]BG_JANJUN91.PS/your queuename
If you receive an error, verify that DFS is running properly with
your system manager.
2. FTSV (File Transfer Spooler for VAX) allows batch copying,
particularly handy for large files on a busy network. The following
command will allow you to copy the Buyer's Guide and to receive
notification by mail when the job is complete.
$ SPOOL COPY INTER::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]BG_JANJUN91.ext1 -
* /NOTIFY=MAIL
1 ext refers to the extension of the file type you wish to copy.
If you receive an error, verify that DFS is running properly with
your system manager.
3. If you do not have FTSV on your system, you may copy the files
directly, preferably with DFS access. Note: this is the least preferred
method since it is very time consuming.
$ COPY INTER::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]BG_JANJUN91.ext *
If you are copying the Bookreader file, you should also copy the
file LIBRARY.DECW$BOOKSHELF as well.
How To Get Help:
If you have trouble accessing the files or if you have questions or
requests, contact:

FDDI Newsletter
A monthly FDDI Newsletter has been created in response to requests to
provide customers with non-confidential material on FDDI. It is
available as a POSTSCRIPT file and can be copied using the following
command:
$ Set Default DELNI::USER$26:[NACCIS.PUBLIC]
$ DIR - select which file you want to copy
$ COPY DELNI::USER$26:[NACCIS.PUBLIC]FDDI_NEWSLETTER_1_1.PS *.*
Pring the file on either an LN03R Scriptprinter, LPS40 or LPS20 using
the following command:
$ PRINT/QUE=<NAME OF YOUR QUE>/PARAM=DATA=POSTSCRIPT <FILENAME>

PLEASE READ FIRST
Welcome to the electronic version of the 1991 January-June edition of the
Telecommunications and Networks Buyer's Guide! It is available in two
formats: ASCII (text only), and PostScript (text and figures). The electronic
edition will be updated continuously throughout the year.
This latest update includes a glossary of networking terminology (GLOSSARY.PS).
Any comments would be greatly appreciated on whether you find this helpful,
complete, inaccurate etc.
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The following is an index of each filename and what section of the Buyer's
Guide it contains. The files are provided as individual topics only. We are
working on providing files that contain an entire section.
The entire book is available in ASCII as BG_JANJUN91.TXT.
At the bottom of this index is a brief description of the copying tools
available should you want to copy the entire book. For specific questions or
comments concerning the CONTENT of the Buyer's Guide, please contact
Cyndi Miller (WORDY::C_MILLER) at DTN 226-7804. For questions concerning
ELECTRONIC access, contact Karl Hakkarainen (WORDY::HAKKARAINEN) 226-7552.
WARNING: Access to the area containing the Buyer's Guide files is
restricted to non-work hours (EST). The size of the files and the
numbers of users attempting to copy the files have, on occasion,
caused serious performance problems on the host disks.
The complete book is not available in a single PostScript file;
you must copy and print the individual sections. We've received
several complaints about people not being able to print the large
file (Section 2). It turns out that most LPS40 printers cannot print such
a large and complex document.

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
1. DFS (Distributed File Service) -- To use DFS to access the Buyer's Guide,
mount the DFS access point, as in the following example:
$ dfscp :== $dfs$control
$ dfscp mount eng.nac.pubs.public tnp_disk
%MOUNT-I-MOUNTED, .ENG.NAC.PUBS.PUBLIC mounted on _DFSCnnnn: (INTER)
After mounting the disk, you can also print directly to the queue of
your choice with:
$PRINT TNP_DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]S1_XXXXX.PS/your queuename
If you receive an error, verify that DFS is running properly with your
system manager.
2. FTSV (File Transfer Spooler for VAX) allows batch copying, particularly
handy for large files on a busy network. The following command will allow
you to copy the Buyer's Guide and to receive notification by mail when the
job is complete.
$ SPOOL COPY INTER::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]S1*.ext -
* /NOTIFY=MAIL
ext refers to the extension of the file type you wish to copy.
If you receive an error, verify that DFS is running properly with your
system manager.
3. If you do not have FTSV on your system, you may copy the files
directly, preferably with DFS access. Note: this is the least preferred
method since it is very time consuming.
$ COPY INTER::PUBLIC$DISK:[PUBLIC.BUYERS]S1*.ext *
If you are copying the Bookreader file, you should also
copy the file LIBRARY.DECW$BOOKSHELF as well.
