220.0. "Competitve Info" by MAIL::CLAYTON (Merlin Clayton DTN 445-7217) Tue Mar 05 1991 09:08
Can anyone point me to some competitive information on various FDDI products?
I'm specifically interested in CISCO, their product set, technical knockoffs,
etc.
My customer is about to go with CISCO as a vendor for FDDI bridges, brouters,
smart hub configs, etc. I have heard, but have no confirmation , that the
Cisco FDDI Enet bridges are encapsulating bridges. Could someone confirm
and provide more information.
Thanks.

| Merlin,
According the the recent Network World article on FDDI products,
cisco's AGS+ box does transparent bridging (translation). This is also
stated in their FDDI brochure. You may want to contact Pam Snaith or
Mehrdad Sheik for more competitive info or knockoffs.

220.2 | Still an encapsulating device | DELNI::SHEIK | | Mon Mar 11 1991 17:32 | 7 |
| As far as we know, the cisco AGS+ product uses encapsulation when it
bridges from Ethernet to FDDI. We have been told that they are not
going to offer translation bridging until June 1991.
We are about to complete an FDDI competitive report which will be
posted in this notesfile (or at least its pointer will be posted).
