    Hi, the above config shows a DECsystem with 2 FDDIcontrollers so it
    serves as an IP-router. Does anyone have any idea what sort of
    throughput I can expect from such a router?

155.1Second configuration is one ringLEVERS::BENSONDTN 952-3555Wed Oct 17 1990 13:1610
    Hi,

    I cannot answer the first of your questions myself. But in the second
    configuration, the attachment from the lower con's A port to the upper
    con's M port will join the two rings into one. What are you trying to
    achieve with the second configuration?

    Regards,

    Dave.

    re .1

    That's the part I couldn't figure out, if the connection between the 2
    CONs link them into 1 ring, then what will the DECsystem 5000 be doing?
    Will it effectively become a router attached to the same LAN?

    Config 1 is what we want to do, 2 rings connected through an IP-router.
    However, in the case of failure in the router, we want the ring to join
    into the main ring (top CON). We know we can do this by physically
    plugging the lower CON to the top CON when the failure occurs. What we
    want to find out is whether there is a way of bypassing the manual
    intervention, ie having the CON-to-CON attachment up but only becoming
    active if the router fails.

    rgds,

    hw (hope that clears up the confusion)

155.4DS5000 TCP/IP-to-FDDI router performanceSWAM3::MARCUS_RIWed Dec 12 1990 22:1911
    I need some help in answering a question about IP router throughput.
    Do you have any throughput numbers for a DECstation or DECsystem 5000
    acting as a TCP/IP-to-FDDI IP router?

    Please respond to me at:

    Someone, I don't know who, sent me a PostScript file said to contain
    charts and graphs of FDDI-to-Ethernet performance. Whoever that
    someone was, would you please print out those charts and graphs and
    then FAX them to me? I don't have access to a PostScript printer.
    My FAX number is (213) 642-1100. Thank you whoever you are
