SMT 6.2 has the following additions:
o A revised specification for SMT MIB encodings. This specification
is separate from the SNMP MIB being defined by the IETF FDDI MIB
working group. See below.
o Duplicate address detection built into the Neighbor Notification
protocol.
o The addition of an optional protocol (Parameter Management Protocol)
used to remotely manage FDDI stations via SMT frames.
o The addition of a Status Reporting protocol. A station uses ths
protocol to periodically announce to the ring that some specific
event or condition has occurred. For example, if a station detects
that it is a duplicate of another on the ring, it will periodically
send a Status Report Frame onto the ring announcing the condition.
o Various additions and changes to SMT frame parameter information
I thinks that's it ... I don't think that there are any others.
Its important to note that SMT 5.1 and 6.2 are compatible, ie., that
a mixture of stations running both versions will (should?) not have
any problems coexisting on the ring.
MIB specs ...
The FDDI MIB working group of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)
is currently working on a MIB definition based upon SMT 6.2. When this
specification will be completed is a good question. It is in draft
form at this time and a few important issues are still being worked on.
