I have just gotten around to reading my August 13th copy of
"Communications Week" and on the front page a headline screams out at
me that DEC is testing FDDI over _shielded_ twisted pair cable. Inside
the text of the article, a DEC person (Wendy Micheal) acknowledges that
DEC is working on this. I have worked in NWSS for the past 4 years and
have not installed _any_ of that type of cable. The DECconnect specs
call for unshielded TWP and ThinWire coax. I was realy hoping that DEC
would come out and announce that we're testing FDDI on some of the
medias that our troops have been pushing for years. I don't have a clue
what I'd say to all of my past customers who have millions of dollars
of cable installed on the reccomendation of DEC and myself. I hope that
this is not the last alternative media announcement that DEC comes out
with.

This same conversation is occuring in the "Digital NEWS" August
20, on page 5, quoting:
"...Digital Equipment Corporation has lab-tested an FDDI...network
running on Shielded twisted pair wiring and found that it works
according to Digital Spokeswoman Joyce Radner."
I guess it's true, I wish that we (DIGITAL internal people) knew about this
stuff at least a FEW days before our customers did...
Maybe I should get a night job as a customer ??
