SITUATION
~~~~~~~~~
There has been a recent shift in the release strategy for ULTRIX.  The
October release of V4.1 with FDDI support has been pulled in by a
month so that 3MAX-3D can ship a month earlier.  ULTRIX has refused to
have another release in October to support FDDI, and has committed now
to include FDDI in the next release, most likely to be in January. 

This means that we will not be able to FRS the FDDIcontroller 700
(3MAX - DECstation 5000 adapter) until the next release in January or
later, even though we would have a product ready to ship.  While we in
T&N believe that this is unacceptable, we have to abide by the
policies that govern ULTRIX, and explore other possibilities. 

PROPOSAL
~~~~~~~~
We are exploring the possibility of doing a Pilot Program or an Early
Shipment Program like the one we had for the FDDI concentrator, bridge
and DECelms with limited quantities.  

We would like to get your reactions to:

1) How does the change in the controller FRS impact your potential 
   business (Please be specific: Customer Names, Units & Dollars)?

2) How important is the proposed pilot program to you?  And will
   it satisfy your customer's needs?
