| MTTR is "mean time to repair". Suggest looking in the FIP " Field
Implementation Plan" for the MTTR and MTBF specs for the
DECconcentrator. FIP's can be found in a system called PMIS which is
accessable under VTX. It's use is open to all and is menu driven. PMIS
also has the FIP's for all VES products. I suggest that this info not
be given to customers unless absolutely necessary. If the MTTR/MTBF
numbers are good, then you sell the box, but not the service contract.
If the numbers are bad then you don't sell either the box or the contract.

| I just started reading this file,,
SET FLAME ON>
DEC wants revenue.....NO,make that DEC NEEDS revenue !!!!
So why suggest that we NOT sell service contracts on equipment with
good MTBF #s?? Service contracts on "good" equipment are the revenue
producers that allow us to offer service contracts on equipment that
do not have such good numbers.
SET FLAME OFF>
A device with a "low" MTBF may mean more fequent service required,
but don't forget that the figure is *MEAN*- time- between- failures.
It doesn't mean that every box will fail after 'n' hours,,it just
means that the nature of the product, and its expected usage, will
probably result in the stated MTBF.
The MTTR is "REPAIR" time,,how long the box is expected to be down
AFTER service is begun on it.It doesn't take into account the time
needed to isolate the trouble to the unit.
To repeat myself,,PLEASE don't advise people not to sell service
contracts,,service contracts are REVENUE if we manage them right...
