Our customer is planning on going to FDDI over the next 2 years. They are impressed with our recent announcements, both product and program; however they have miles of 50/125 fiber installed and they have no intention of pulling new 62.5/125 fiber. Do we have any plans to support 50/125? Perhaps via an analagous service to DTAC? (FTAC?) ;-) I hope the answer is not "walk away from the deal"... Thanks, Stan

Appendix A of the DECconnect System Fiber Optic Planning and Configuration Guide (EK-DECSY-FP) has most of the information your customer would need to know if their installed fiber would suuport FDDI. Don't walk away, help them determine if the old cable is capable. If you need further assistance, DTAC will help with fiber as well. Mike | |||||

We most definitely support FDDI over 50/125. One of the Field Test sites (CERN) had only 50/125 in their campus. The T&N Buyer's Guide and the product datasheets list the power budgets for all four multimode fiber sizes, including 50/125. |
