89.0. "Minimum length of fibre ?" by COMICS::WOODWARD (Smile!) Wed Jul 11 1990 12:52

    If I wish to connect two FDDI boxes together using one of the DFON
    patch cables, is there any problem using the 1m length, ie, is there a
    minimum length required in order to not 'overload' the receiver?

    Alternatively, what power do the defeb and defcn transmit at? I know
    the receivers range is -14dbm to -31dbm, so if the transmit is less
    than -14dmb I'm going to be ok with any of the patch cables.

    Thanks for any info,

    Steve

There is no minimum length for those products: ANSI multimode PMD allows
a transmitter to be connected directly to the receiver.

In one of the possible variants of the Single Mode PMD standard, this is
not the case. But that variant will not be all that common, since it
is meant for very long distances. In any event, none of our current
products are of that type.
