66.0. "Concentrator in workgroup topology" by BACHUS::VERMEIREN () Thu May 17 1990 06:52

	Hi,

I have i hope a simple configuration problem.
When i use a concentrator as a standalone hub, can i connect decbridge 500's
to it . On page 3-7 of the System level description they only talk about nodes
and not about bridges.
I want to present a FDDI solution for a customer like this:

			|-----------|
			| WC |
			|-----------|
			   / \
			  / \
		       |----| |-----|
		       | 500| | 500 |
		       |----| |-----|
			 / \
		        / \
		802.3 lan#1 802.3 lan#3

This configuration is just to start with and later on we can add other
concentrators to create a real FDDI backbone .

Any answer will appreciated.

My understanding is that this is fine, and indeed is going to be a
    normal entry point into FDDI

I have just configured this option for a customer in S.C. (They wanted
to say that they "Had One...")

Now, do I use the flip, or a Non-flip FDDI jumper???

Flip or non-flip jumper? If you're talking about a direct jumper from
the concentrator to the bridge (without patch panels in between) --
    there is only one type.

    re: .2 and .3

Most existing DECconnect FDDI documentation still refers to both a
crossover (flip) and non-crossover FDDI-to-FDDI Patch Cable. This is
part number BN24B-nn for the crossover version. The non-crossover
version (originally BN24C-nn) HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED (or was never
    stocked??)

CROSSOVER (flip) cables are the only ones used.

There is a fairly complete, but maybe convoluted discription of the
issue in the April 1990 pre-release version of the DECconnect System
Planning and Configuraion Guide, Section 4.5.4.2. The final version
should be orderable from Northboro on May 30, order # EK-DECSY-FP.

I think by "existing" you mean preliminary documentation. The "real"
documentation is supposed to contain no mention of non-crossover
    cables.

Of course, the FDDI-to-ST style cables are available in both flip
    and non-flip.......same part #'s, though......	;-)
