Hallo, I heard that the XMI Adapeter will only supported under Decnet phase V. Is this true or only rumor? Can a Host with the XMI Adapter route DECnet traffic via the FDDI Backbone? What's about the VMS/Ultrix Connection Software. Will it be possible to have TCP/IP traffic from a VAX9000/VAX6000 with a XMI-Adapter via the FDDI-Backbone to TCP/IP Workstations at an Ethernet connected to FDDI-Backbone with a Bridge? I hope this questions are not to silly. But I'm not very long engaged with FDDI Tsch Wiltrud

62.1 | The current VMS support plan | STAR::GAGNE | David Gagne - VMS/DECnet-VAX Dev. | Wed May 16 1990 11:47 | 15 |
VMS will support the DEMFA at about the time the DEMFA is ready. I say "about" because the schedules from the DEMFA group and the VMS group will probably not align perfectly. If at the time of that support the DECnet-VAX Phase V project is not ready, then the DEMFA will be supported on DECnet-VAX Phase IV. Certainly the DECnet protocol will work. The only questions are how much management will be there and what packet size it will use. Since FDDI is (to applications above Ethernet) very similar to Ethernet, I expect that FDDI will be supported by Clusters, MOP, DECnet, LAT, TCP/IP, etc. These protocols may chose to take advantage of the larger packet sizes if they want (on transmit). They will be required to handle the reception of the larger packet sizes.

Our current XMI adapter is a SAS device! With AXP systems rolling out are there any plans on making these devices sit on the ring via a DAS XMI adapter? Thanks, -Piyush

Not that I know of. I don't see what Alpha has to do with it. You might discuss this with the product manager... paul |
