I am trying to help plan a network configuration involving the
future connection of a set of either Stratus or Tandem systems with
the Fault Tolerant VAX, with the connection including an FDDI
    backbone.

When the FDDI product set begins to ship, what recommendations would
Digital expect to make regarding the protocol to connect the
other-vendor systems with the FTVAX (which would be running VMS).

    Thankyou,

    Dave Smith

| Dave,
I don't think FDDI is the way to go here. Not only are we not
currently building an FDDI adapter for the ftVAX, but neither Stratus
or Tandem have announced any FDDI products for their systems. Ethernet
is the only physical connection that all three support and at the
higher levels, probably TCP/IP (although Stratus has some version of
DECnet for their machines, don't know about Tandem though).

| To answer the question directly, the FDDI protocol _is_ the multi-vendor
ANSI FDDI protocol, there's just one for everyone and no choice to be
    made.
