36.0. "SAFENET II info anyone?? also XTP??" by CHOVAX::GAUL () Wed Feb 14 1990 15:50

I've been asked by a customer, who received the FDDI PID, whether
or not Digital will in any way support SAFENET II. So far I'm told
that it is a Navy sponsored spec that sounds like a super-set of
    the ANSI FDDI spec.

Can any one provide or direct me to information regarding Safenet
II and Digital's position on it?

While I'm asking, the customer also asked whether Digital will be
supporting XTP (as in Express Transfer Protocol), which is believed
to be part of TCP/IP and also maybe part of the Safenet II.

FWIW, XTP is not in any way related to TCP/IP. Instead, it's an invention
of people who claim that TCP/IP is incapable of being made efficient enough
for networks like FDDI. The technical justification for this claim is
flimsy at best...
