27.0. "FDDI Course Announcement" by WREATH::RUSSO () Wed Jan 10 1990 12:01
Course Title
------------
FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) Concepts Pilot
Course
Presentation Date & Location
----------------------------
JAN 25th - JAN 26th at the Bedford Training Facility
Bedford MA
Problem Statement
-----------------
Digital is designing new products to implement fiber
optic networks operating at 10Mbs and 100Mbs. These
are the fiber optic Ethernet and FDDI products.
The Customer Service Engineers (CSEs) will be
responsible for installing, maintaining, and
troubleshooting Digital's FDDI products to the field
replaceable unit (FRU). In order to provide quality
service to our customers, the CSEs must first be
introduced to fiber optic and FDDI technology.
The FDDI Concepts Course is designed to provide the
CSEs with an in-depth understanding of fiber optic
theory and FDDI technology. This course will provide
the CSEs with enough background information to
complete the FDDI Installation and Maintenance Course.
This FDDI Concepts Course is a prerequisite course for
the FDDI Installation and Maintenance Course.
Course Format
-------------
The FDDI Concepts Course will be presented as a 2 day,
video-based, self-paced instruction (SPI) course.

maintain existing Digital network devices. This
prerequisite can be obtained from either field
experience or by attending the Baseband Ethernet
Course.
Course Description
-----------------

the CSE with fiber optic and FDDI technology.
Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite
for attending the upcoming FDDI Installation &
Maintenance Course. This training will include:

o Introduction to FDDI
o FDDI background
o Digital FDDI products
2
Course Goals
------------
Upon successfully completing this course, the CSE
should be able to:
o Describe the principles of basic light wave
propagation.
o List the basic components of fiber optic
technology.
o List the types of fiber optic cables used in
communications today.
o List the components of a fiber optic system.
o Describe the passive hardware used in a fiber optic
cable plant.

27.1 | How about local training? | MAMTS3::PDORNAN | Patrick Dornan, NWSS 8-339-7169 | Thu Jan 11 1990 17:34 | 7 |
| Will thie course be sent out to local Training Centers? I'd like
to view it, but will be at NetU the following week, and likely be
at building wiring standards training the week after that. I need
to spend some time with customers - they tend to stay happier that
way.
