Looking for a pointer to informatin on our support strategy for repair of the Fiber. Can't seem to find a FIP or Service Plan that will spell out the kind of service the customer can expect from DEC re; Broken connectors, broken cables etc. Are we going to recommend another vendor come in and repair? Are we going to replace broken connectors ourselves? Are we going to provide remedial service on a broken cable in the form of a spilce, and/or a splice with a pigtail? Notice I said Fiber not any specific product. We have been offering more and more fiber products to the world. The latest FIP I've read is Titled Fiber Optic Service Plan, and dated Jun 84. That plan indicates we call in another vendor for repair. OR, could it be that what we offer will be site or product specific? Bob

We sell cable maintenance as part of NETsupport here in the MAA. We sub out the parts we can't provide ourselves. The customer gets a single vendor solution, we get revenue. We (DEC) do not employ cable pullers/repair people that I'm aware of. regards, Patrick | |||||

Corporate policy is; we don't. DFON (fiber premise networks) will be/are a part of Decconnect and the corporate business decision is no fixed priced remedial service offerings for any passive network components (copper or fiber). DFON/DECconnect is primarily a design and install service. And it has also been shown that remedial demand is very small and can be handled on a local decision level. The same DFON parts, tools, and procedures used to install and certify a new fiber link can be used to trouble shoot, repair and certify an existing link. A preliminary DFON service operation plan is in HWPASS. Should you disagree with or question this decision, it would be best to raise your issues thru the business channels. Hope this info helps.
