| As most of you have probably noticed by now, MOUSE has been less than
stable. I thought putting in a whole new system disk and ditching the
user disk would have helped by keeping maintenance to a dull roar, but
the new system disk bit the dust last week.
Finally fed up with the unreliability of the system, we made a major
change: we changed one of the nodes in our production cluster to the
name MOUSE and moved the notes file to our cluster. We don't want to
"burden" the production facilities with the notes file, so for now,
please leave your notebook entry pointed at MOUSE. We have some
upgrades scheduled for other parts of our cluster for later this
summer. After these upgrades are done and we are satisfied that
everything is stable, we'll officially change the access to the cluster
alias. MOUSE may go down a few times over the next week or two as we
tune the system or add memory, etc.
In the meantime, and please make note of this, if you have trouble
accessing this file or the other files on MOUSE, please send me mail on
BARNYD::WILLIAMS first, and if that doesn't get any response, try
accessing the file through BIGSOW. Just don't be surprised if we
disconnect you from BIGSOW if performance takes a big hit (unlikely).
I appreciate your patience during this troubled time. I know things
have been rough. I travel quite a bit, so sometimes response can take
awhile...
Regards,
Bryan
P.S. I have an opening for a co-moderator. If someone who reads the
file on a regular basis would like to take this on, please send me
mail. (Paul? Randy? Ray?)
