1130.0. "DECNET PHASE 4 for RSX11M Kit NEEDED." by GUOV00::GUZMAN (Martin Martin) Wed Mar 26 1997 17:58

    from note 1012 I found elrond has the software kits online but
    elrond (2.300) has been unreachable for several days,

    can anyone help me to get the sofware?

    I need Decnet Phase 4 for a PDP 1193 with RSX11M V4.2

    I'm not knowledgeable on RSX11 either, I'll appreciate if you let me
    know how to install this kit.

    Regards
    Martin

elrond is definitely unreachable ... unless you can bridge the gap between
Mentec's network and the Digital engineering network ! It is no longer a
Digital node.

Is this internal, or for a customer ? If for a customer, does the customer
have a license ? Has the customer considered Year 2000 issues ? (i.e. maybe
he should upgrade rather than invest in this only to do it again later).

1130.2It is for a customerNETRIX::"[email protected]"Martin GuzmanFri Mar 28 1997 00:0426
Stuart:

    This is for a customer, its a steel manufacturer.
    They have just purchased a solution that is certified to run on an
    Alphastation with OpenVMS 6.2 and Decnet Phase IV. They need Decnet on
    the PDP 11/93 they are trying to communicate with.

There was a confusion here about if the products were orderable or not
    and we suffered a delay of one month. As of today we know it is
    orderable and the order is being processed but we are in a hurry
    because the client was planning to shutdown for the installation
    next april 4th, and Tech people is coming from Austria to
    Mexico in order to install.

    The customer does not have a license either, is it as fast to generate
    as it is for a VMS PAK? if not how, can i get one?

    The software is already ordered but I will warn our customer about
    the Year 2000 implications. Thank you.

    Can you help me in order to get the software over the Easynet?

     thanks for your help.
     Martin.

Unless there is a PDP-11 at your site, on the easynet, then this is
not feasible.

1130.4Can someone Fedex it?GUOV00::GUZMANMartin MartinSat Mar 29 1997 11:1610
    Stuart:
    The license is already ordered too.

    We do not have a PDP here, I don't know when every thing will arrive.
    I will check that next Monday, but
    Just in case, Who can I call to ask for the media and license if We
    need to bring it as soon as possible?

    Thank you.

The license is just a number ...

Since the version of DECnet you ordered is old, it must be copied from tapes
in Fire Storage ... I don't know of any way to expedite that.

1130.6how about a newer one?GUOV00::GUZMANMartin MartinMon Mar 31 1997 13:1814
    Do you have a newer version handy?

    RSX and VAX vms are Files-11 based, Why we cannot transfer it over the
    network to a VAX?

    We are expecting to receive version 4.5 but it takes 9 days to
    manufacture it and two weeks to import to Mexico.
    The plant will shutdown next Monday!.

     We could arrage to pick it in the US if there is one handy.

    Please Call me DTN 728 1516.
    Thank you.

I really cannot get anything to you any faster than that ...

The files are stored on tape in DOS format, and in about 30 different
directories ... to copy to / from a VMS machine is a logistical nightmare.
