    CAVEAT EMPTOR...

Please remember to peruse one's credit card statements under
powerful lights and mighty magnifying lenses. LOOK for any
words like INTERNET CONNECTION. My last two DCU Visa state-
ments had charges on them. The first was for $5.95 which I
thought that my mother used for a call home last month. We
share a card as she is dis-abled and living with us...this
makes it easier to manage her finances. Well, this month's
statement came through with $40.00 worth of three hits. Two
plus last month's were to the same service which included an
800 number so I have blocked my Visa number from being used
again. The other was APPOLLO INTERNET SERVICES in Shelby,
NC for which long-distance and the 800 service shows no listings.
I am in contact with the DCU and will have to file a dispute
on the Appolo one. Does anyone have any info on this service
as to how to reach them??

Please and thank you. Anyone else running into this problem???

I'm confused... Do you know how these charges were accrued?

a lot of online services let you input all your info, including a
credit card number to charge the fees to. Once approved you are given
a username and passwd. Many only do a simple check to see if the
number is a valid credit card, and do little or no validation in
regards to WHO is using the card.

someone gets your card number, they sign on and use their account
until someone catches on and the charges dont go through on that
    card number anymore.

anyone using a pc banking program should catch it pretty quickly if
they keep up with their receipts. I immediately know during a month
end reconcilation when a charge on any account shows up, for which I
hadn't inputted the charge (and thus had prior knowledge it would
    occur).

some of the online services can be a bear to cancel your account. I had
to block sprynet from my card, because they wouldn't respond to their
online cancellation form, and I never could get through on the phone
with 20 minute waits during daytime long distance rates.
