971.0. "Financial Services through DCU" by STOWOA::WEBBER () Fri Jan 26 1996 11:43

The main branch is now offering some Financial advice headed up by
an individual by the name of Ron Dade. I visited him yesterday and was
impressed for the most part considering this was my initial visit.

The question I am wondering is whether or not the employees of Digital
who are board members support this service and would encourage its
membership to partake of it? I hate to get involved with someone who
will be watching out for my money & my life to a certain extent if it
is not a service that we can believe in and trust. Like anyhting else
in life there is no 100% guarantee but I just don't want to get
involved with something that would be another Mangone thing or
    untrustworthy thing.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

I heard that this was coming -- I'm glad it's now happening. Here's
the text posted on the DCU web page about this:

We are pleased to announce that Financial Network Investment Corporation
has been chosen as our Broker/Dealer to offer mutual funds, fixed
annuities, and variable annuities to our members. FNIC is one of the
largest independent Broker/Dealers in the United States. FNIC is an NCS
recommended business partner. FNIC was noted as one of four "best
Broker/Dealers in America" in the September, 1995 issue of Investment
Advisor Magazine. We look forward to working with our FNIC branch Sales
Manager, Ronald Dade. Ronald has been in the financial services industry
for 18 years and a Financial Planner since 1981. You may contact Ronald
at 508/461-0706. He will be located at 141 Parker St., Maynard, MA.

Investments purchased through FNIC are not insured.

    	Enjoy,
    	Larry
971.2ROWLET::AINSLEYLess than 150 kts. is TOO slow!Fri Jan 26 1996 13:375
This is NOT directed at DCU or Ronald Dade. When I want financial
advice, I will go to a planner/advisor who doesn't sell me anything
    other than his advice.

    >>>>>Who do you recommend for this type of service and what is
    >>>>>reasonable to pay for such a service? Do others have experience
    >>>>>and thoughts?

    >>>>>From my brief intro to the service by Ron Dade it sounded like

I read the above as an indication that Ronald, through FNIC, will be
offering more than advice.

To some extent, this is true, but often many of the non-sales type financial
planners simply do not know what is available. A good proportion of those
who do sell have a good competetive knowledge ... and a good proportion don't!

So I think it really boils down to pot luck. You know to run if the first thing
you are pointed to is to purchase something ... and especially if that something
is whole life insurance ... or mutual funds his company happens to sell!

Re: .0

The Board of Directors definitely supports this new financial services offering
through FNIC. We had to vote on it, to allow the relationship with FNIC and
DCU. DCU decided to offer this service (purchase and sale of mutual funds and
annuities, as well as financial planning services) because of the demand from
members who have been looking for higher returns than DCU can offer, but still
want to do their business through DCU. I do encourage DCU members to talk to
Ron, and see if this service can meet your needs. I understand that he cannot
offer all mutual funds in existence, but the list available is fairly extensive.

Re: .2

Because Ron Dade offers financial advice does not mean you have to use that
service. But you should know (and can find out if you ask) that FNIC is not
sponsoring any particular investments. In fact I believe they do not offer any
mutual funds of their own. That is one of the compelling reasons DCU chose FNIC.

And to all of you, thanks for being paranoid. I appreciate that now more than
ever, since you elected me in July. Please ask questions. And you can trust us
a little, especially if you agree with the direction DCU has been going this
past year.

971.7They are feistier than car salesman sometimesDREGS::BLICKSTEINGeneral MIDITue Jan 30 1996 10:4810
One financial planner (i.e. "securities salesman") actually seemed
amazed that I would have any problem limiting ALL my investment
to only what his firm would sell me.

He even regarded my investment in the stock plan as a "potential
problem" although he (so graciously) agreed to just "overlook" that.

He wanted me to commit to buying everything thru him.

Putting on my best Carnack voice and face, I probably would have
told him that I was beginning to get a vision of the percentage
of my investements that I intended to place through him.
