967.0. " Rating from Bauer Financial Reports Inc. ???" by MPGS::KANN () Thu Jan 18 1996 10:20

Another Credit Union I belong to states that they
have a 4-Star Rating from Bauer Financial Reports Inc.

In fact, this other Credit Union, says that this is there
	10th consecutive 4-Star Rating.

The also state: "The 4-Star Rating signifies that regulatory
capital exceeded 6.0% of assets and that delinquent loans and
repossessed assets were minimal and manageable."

	Question:
		What is DCU's rating?

First, this is a question you should really ask of the Info Center. There are
no DCU employees who read this file, and they are the folks with the answers to
the nitty gritty questions about DCU.

Second, I'm not quite sure how to answer your question. DCU is not rated by
Bauer Financial Reports (that I know of). But according to your description of
a 4-star rating:

>> The 4-Star Rating signifies that regulatory
>> capital exceeded 6.0% of assets and that delinquent loans and
>> repossessed assets were minimal and manageable.

We are as good if not better than this rating. DCU ended 1995 with a
(much-loved) capital ratio of over 8%. Loan delinquencies are running about
.25% to .30%, which is a fraction of the national average, and there were no
repossessed assets.

Hope this helps.

In the past we had bean counters who lived and diead by this number.
9%+ seemed to be the goal.

Where do we stand on this today? Have we reached the 'GOAL'?

IMHO, in the past we spent too much time worrying about the holy grail
number and not enough time about overall service/attitude.

The NCUA sets goals for capital ratio, among other things, which
appear to be a moving target. So as it turns out, there isn't a
single "goal" that we can reach and then forget about it.

I don't think this is a problem any more! The capital ratio has
been steadily improving, as has (IMO) member service/member services.
This is a rewarding time to be a DCU volunteer.

The $1M bonus dividend reduced the capital ratio. The lower
number will show up in the January ending financials.

The Credit Union (and Board) felt that benefits and services
to the membership are more important that achieving an absolute
number.
