961.0. "Can a non-GMA director be effective?" by HYLNDR::BADGER (Can DO!) Fri Dec 01 1995 22:09

While discussing rerunning for the bod with a current director, the
topic of weither or not members felt a non-GMA candidate/bod member
could be effective. I'll state my thinking in the note reply, but
we agreed to sample members feelings here. I don't claim to be a
spokesperson for anyone. I am not recomending anyone at this time.
I am just feeling the pulse through this note.

I think we've touched on this subject before. I'd have orginally felt
no myself. I've rethought my position. I believe the effectiveness of
a director is within that person and not limited to being physically
anchored to a location. There may be benifits of having a non-gma
director who has personal experience of how it is for a non-gma member
    to deal with DCU.
I think we have to look at a p[ersons qualification/voting record,
    and communications.
    How do you feel?

If your question is "Should Paul Kinzelman attempt to maintain his seat on
the board next year?", my answer would be a resounding "yes".

I sincerely agree that non-GMA directors can be just as effective.

It is possible to be in GMA and a useless director.

In reference to Paul, my communication with him shows that he is not
one to follow the crowd. If he believes that something is good
for DCU then he will do what he feels best, whether it followed
the Gs or the old board people. I like someone who stands on their
    own.

I feel that a NON-GMA member can be effective as a member of the BOD. I
am in favor of ANYONE who wishes to run for office to do so, no matter
on location.
