959.0. "DCU branches at non-DEC companies?" by IROCZ::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570) Wed Oct 25 1995 16:01

  I read in a recent DCU mailing that DCU is planning to open branches in
certain non-Digital workplaces and allow employees of these companies to join.
What companies and facilities are being considered for this? I assume one of
them is Quantum. If so, does this include Quantum facilities that were not
formerly Digital?

As far as I know, DCU is not planning any new branches in non-Digital sites.

The only Quantum employees who can join DCU work in Shrewsbury, and in Colorado
Springs. The DCU branch in Shrewsbury is in the Quantum facility. It was
recently moved to have its own external entrance. Could this be what you mean?

959.2Increased Field of MembershipSLOAN::HOMThu Oct 26 1995 09:5015
    I'm not sure where your saw that mentioned. In the last Network (Fall,
    1995) there was a short article indicating that the DCU would "expand
    the number of companies whose employees we serve".

    This basically means increasing the Field of Membership (FOM) so
    employees of other companies can join. This will allow the DCU to
    amortize the fixed costs over a larger member base. I know of
    no short term plans to open branches at other companies. Don't
    read too much into the words "short term". I say "short
    term" rather than "no plans" so that this note can't be quoted
    out of context in the event the DCU opens a new branch in say 5 years.

  I misinterpreted the blurb in Network. I apologize for possibly starting a
false rumor.
  I had a discussion with Elaine off-line about this. With this and the first
two replies, I now understand what is (and is not) happening.
