935.0. "DCU notesfile needs a new home" by SMAUG::GARROD (IBM Interconnect Engineering) Fri Jun 02 1995 14:40

Bill, Bob,

The SMAUG cluster is shortly going to be dismantled. It will reincarnate
itself but on a system owned by EDS. Even though SMAUG will continue to
be on the EASYNET I don't think it is appropriate to host the DCU notesfile
on a non Digital owned machine.

Please could you find a new home for the DCU notesfile. It is about 50,000
blocks long at present. If you can't host it on one of your machines I suggest
investigating node NOTED::. It has loads of notesfiles on it.

I have file access to the DCU notesfile so I can arrange to make it available
for copying. I estimate that the SMAUG name will move over to the EDS system
in about 2 weeks so I'd appreciate it if you could find a new home for
DCU.NOTE. I'm also going to post this in the DCU notesfile.

Regards,

Dave Garrod,	wearing my EDS IBM Interconnect Engineering Manager hat,
		not my DCU Director hat.

As you can see this notesfile now has a new home.

now that Dave has been arround here a while, perhaps he will also find
time to respond to some of the topics at hand.

    Ed,

As a contractor, one's use of Digital's network has to be done with
extreme care. So, it is probably better that he still respond through
others, because now, if he wrote something in here directly that
someone took aversion to, then not only would he be in jeopardy ...
but so would his job with his employer. Since if Digital were to
deny him access, he would be useless to his employer.
