I would like to make a suggestion about the way the meeting minutes are
handled in this conference:
Currently the minutes are all posted as replies to a single note, while
a new note is opened for discussion about each set of minutes. This
seems to be a good system. However, it seems that the new note for
discussion of a particular set of minutes is usually created *before*
the minutes themselves are posted.
If you read this conference using NEXT UNSEEN as I do, the effect of
this is that be default you see all the discussion about the minutes
before seeing the minutes themselves. While it is possible to
circumvent this by jumping directly to the minutes, it would be more
straightforward if the minutes were posted *before* the note for
discussion of them is created.

(This moderator has in mind a widely circulated and personal favorite
QAR answer, which in his opinion is perfectly suited to this
situation. As he recalls, it includes multiple instances of the phrase,
"See Figure 1." He will post a pointer as time permits. In the
meanwhile...)
You are correct -- the discussion string is started immediately before
the minutes are posted. This is done because the note number of the
discussion string is variable, and in times of high traffic essentially
unpredictable, while the minutes reply is not afflicted by this
problem.
Cross references between the minutes reply and the base note for the
discussion string are thoughtfully provided in both entries. The current
process minimizes the work required to get these cross references
correct.
Deal with it.

Bill, how about creating a couple of dozen empty reserved topics at a time for discussion of future minutes; then you can always know what the number of the next free discussion topic is, and just change the title on the next free one after you've posted the minutes, to reflect which minutes note it will discuss. | |||||
