| It probably has something to do with the fact that the money you spread
around shows up on your Digital paystub as a "voluntary deduction".
As far as I'm concerned, the way I spread my pay between my checking
account and my other accounts does not involve Digital at all. So,
what necessitates this particular connection?

| I guess I just misplaced my similar note under an "annoying fees"
topic...
Only my question was asking if I was going to be able to keep
doing this, and now it seems that the basenote answers my
questions.

| Contact DCU and ask some questions. If they're being as sensitive
to folks leaving DEC as they claim, perhaps they would act on
your suggestion. It seems like a service many who leave the company
would appreciate even after they leave.

| I guess I also fail to understand the (purported) issue.
DIGITAL makes one EFT per paycheck to the DEFCU each week, don't they?
Even if they make two (the one listed under voluntary deductions and
the "net"), it's only the DEFCU that's aware of any further distribution,
so what difference can it make to DEFCU whether the direct deposit comes
from DIGITAL or Joe's Bar & Grill?

| Digital will make multiple deposits to the DCU. One is a net pay
deposit, done via electronic funds transfer in exactly the same way you
can deposit your net pay to any bank.
The other is "voluntary deduction", distributed to those accounts the
DCU knows about. Digital payroll only knows the amount of the
deduction, and forwards that amount on to the DCU. The DCU knows how
to distribute that deduction amount into the various accounts you
designate on the card you filled out.
Once you no longer work for DEC, your link between Digital payroll and
the DCU distribution of the voluntary deduction is lost. In fact, as
far as I know, the voluntary deduction is only available between DEC
and DCU.
Check to see if the DCU can distribute the EFTS "net pay" deposit. I
doubt that their system is set up for that. Few (if any) banks with
only an EFTS tie can handle anything other than a "net pay" deposit.
That is, a single amount into a single account. If they can do a
distribution for this kind of EFT, then they should be able to do it
for any incoming automatic deposit. (My guess is that they can't do it
or they would have eliminated the voluntary deduction link a long time
ago.)

| The paper I received from my new employer says I can have my paycheck
deposited in up to three places. It is either all to one place or
this much here, this much here, and the rest here.
So getting the seperate deduction should be easy enough. Now all I
have to do is convince DCU :-(
As there any other credit unions that offer these sub accounts?

| People's Savings Bank (now part of Shawmut) once told me that they
would tranfer a set amount every month from my checking account to any
other accounts that I have with them, provided that I have direct
deposit to my checking account. This isn't quite the same as having
each individual paycheck divided up, but it's close enough if I ever
decide to leave the DCU.
My guess is that the DCU can only do this via payroll deduction because
that's always been good enough. Perhaps now that it isn't good enough,
they might have the impetus to support a new procedure. Or perhaps
they'll decide that there isn't enough payback to justify doing it.
Enjoy,
Larry

| At both Shawmut and BayBank I currently have set amounts transferred each
Thursday from checking to savings. The forms I filled out specify source
and destination account; it would be possible to move money on a regular
basis between any two accounts.
There is no requirement for direct deposit; it is my responsibility to
ensure that there are funds in the source account prior to the transfer.

| I asked a different person at the same branch today.
Another option is to have part of my check deposited in saving (.1) and
the rest in checking (.5). This is because my new employer will allow
me to direct deposit my pay into up to three different EFT accounts.
So the lady at the branch here printed out the number to use to cause
things to go to my .1. And the deposit slip or voided check has the
number to make things go to my .5.
So I still have to manually spread things from the .1. But at last it
is not from my checking account. The less I do thru the checking
account, the better the chance of keeping it straight.
I can also have my car loan paid weekly from my savings.
If we could just have the direct deposit go to the .10 instead of .1, I
would be really happy. Oh well. Maybe after this election I'll go
find a better credit union.

| BE *VERY* CAREFULL!! moving around from your -1 [savings] is LIMITED to
4 [FOUR] transactions per month. greater than four
can cause money to be frozen for the rest of the month,
or forfeiture of your account.
remember that little goodie that DCU gave us?

| You can't forfeit a savings account by trying to transfer money
in/out of it. There is a limit of 3 or 4 easytouch transfers per
month, but attempting to exceed that will only fail--not cause your
money to be frozen or forfeited. You still have full access to your
money by performing a written transaction at a branch or by mail.

| Kelly wanted to use easytouch. after 4 transactions in the month, she could
not even call member services [unless a note from god] to transfer her money.
it is frozen unless she visited a branch. NOT an option to all members.
I believe reg D allows the accounts of abusers to be closed, although I can
be wrong. I did not mean money was forfeited.

:-) common mistake.
Thanks for all the info. Sounds like I can make this work long enough
to check out the CU available there or some other CU.
