838.0. "Good By" by NODEX::POLIKOFF (Arnie MRO1-3 POLE P14 Office 32503) Tue May 24 1994 13:33

Dear Friends;

	I am taking the early retirement package offer by DEC. It has
been interesting working here for the past ten years but I think it is
time to move on. This has been the longest that I have ever worked for
any company. The funny thing is that I started my career in this very
same building at 200 Forest Street when I got out of college. At that
time I worked for RCA and I was the first occupant in this building.

    Arnie, best of luck to you.

    All I'm hearing about is TSFO (layoffs); what early
    retirement package offer are you referring to?

    More than idly curious,

838.2How to retire earlyNODEX::POLIKOFFArnie MRO1-3 POLE P14 Office 32503Wed May 25 1994 11:1312
    	Any one who gets laid off and is 55 years old or older and has
    worked for the company for ten years or more ALSO gets the early
    retirement package. The early retirement package is medical insurance
    for life. There may be other benefits but I did not get the package in
    the mail yet.

    	The important thing to note is that you must be laid off to get the
    early retirement package. So if you want to retire early, rush right
    over to your boss and tell him/her that you want to be included in the
    current company down-sizing.

  .0 is gone, but I'm going to reply anyway. According to my 1991 benefits
book, which may be out of date, you can retire at age 55 without being laid
off. There may be some additional retirement benefit that people who are laid
off at age 55 get.
