753.0. "Has anyone heard *personally* from Chuck Cockburn?" by SPECXN::WITHERS (Bob Withers) Thu Feb 10 1994 11:54

Note 747 discusses the BOD (and by implication the management) DCU decision
making progress. One of the pressing questions is around data gathering: why
did a boatload of people leave the DCU; why aren't account closers asked their
motivations?

This lead me to think about the issue of member communications. In my case,
I've written two ardent letters to Chuck Cockburn and the BOD. I have a 50%
success rate in getting responses: three BOD members have talked to me.

As for communication from Mr. Cockburn, I've had two nice talks with a member
relations wonk. Don't get me wrong, these were nice talks and she was a nice
lady. However, I specifically asked to hear from the recipients of my first
letter -- including Mr. Cockburn.

Whether I'm a customer or an owner (depending on perspective,) when I ask
the person in charge to contact me, I expect them to; even if only in writing
rather than by phone. As such, I'm disenchanted that Mr. Cockburn
couldn't/wouldn't/didn't try to reach me, a relationship member. I'm not
trying to impute motives, but lack of personal communications to members is a
statement in-and-of itself.

Somewhere else in this conference, it is pointed out that none of the site
meetings promised as long as two years ago have happened. This, again,
bespeaks volumes.

So, after a long winded introduction, has anyone who objects to the fees heard
*directly* and *personally* from Mr. Cockburn? Obviously, the BOD has and
probably some of the candidates for various positions inside DCU. If Mr.
Cockburn had been more communicative with his customers and listened to their
expressions of policy, we would might be fighting to rescind the fees now.

I heard personally from Chuck Cockburn way back last summer. I
don't remember the exact date and don't have my notes handy to
find it. I do remember it was before I moved to this office.
The move happened at the end of August.

I sent a note to the DCU board before fees were introduced
because, reading between the lines of the official communications
and remembering Chuck's comments about fees 2 years ago, I
guessed they were coming. Someone obviously forwarded my note
because he called me to explain why fees were needed.

Interesting. Five weeks later and no one else has responded that
they talked with Chuck. I wonder what it was I said ...
