| I too, would love to have mail access to the DCU, I am in Australia.
Our clocks are 12 hours out from the U.S.A., and the Postal service can
take up to two weeks... (A concern when you are trying to wire money,
and catch the best exchange rate...)

| My understanding is that DCU has some limited Enet access but nothing
that is or can easily be used on a regular business basis. External
access, and DCU *is* considered external, is handled by the Digital
management that interfaces with DCU, for the DCU/Digital business
relationship, and the internal network security people. That's not
the major problem though.
There is also the security of financial information moving around the
net. Faking mail is not that hard. This is not to say that the problems
are insolvable just that they are non trivial. I think that some sort
of business via the net would be a good and useful thing. And I've
said so to a couple of BoD members and to some senior DCU people. But
there are a lot of things that need worked these days and not enough
time to do everything.
Using the Internet has also be discussed. I've brought it up myself.
:-) The Internet has the advantage of being accessible to some members
who are not Digital employees. The security (of data) issues are of
some concern to me in that.
I will say that the idea seems to be regularly discussed at DCU and
doesn't seem to be rejected out of hand. It's just not high enough on
the priority list yet.

This is true but is of limited utility to people for whom the EasyTouch
system is an interNATIONal call. :-)

EasyTouch isn't reachable from outside the U.S.? I realize that there
are international phone charges involved, but if you don't want to deal
with the mail and there is no computer access, it is an option.

| While EasyTouch may be accessible through assorted plans that let people
dial 1-800 numbers from abroad, there is no guarantee that the MF signalling
(touch tones) will survive across the international links. There are
some very selective audio filters on the lines that may mess up the tones.
Also, there are a few countries in the world where the MF tones are
incompatible, AND there are a lot of countries where MF doesn't exist, or
is rare. MF is rare in the UK for example.
While you may be able to access DCU through DTN from abroad, you can reckon
that you'll have to justify the call to your manager!!!

| Thank you very much for all replies. I didn't know how to use EasyTouch,
but I could some transfer by it. This is enough for me at this time.
Thanks again,

742.9 | Please allow E-net access | WNPV01::GROSJEAN | Cheerfulness Makes You Healthy | Wed Mar 23 1994 08:47 | 7 |
| I'd like to see e-net access only so we can have easy (quick) written access
to DCU. I called DCU twice Monday to request that an application for pre-
approval be FAX'd. Both times I was told the form would be FAX'd right away.
I would appreciate being able to send a mail explaining that I never received
what I asked for.

| I'd prefer to see secured Internet mail access. This would allow anyone
to direct mail to DCU from wherever they are. Isn't this a better
solution?
