737.0. "Can't use Easy Touch without hardcopy instructions handy" by TOOK::MORRISON (Bob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570) Mon Jan 17 1994 10:39

I tried using Easy Touch yesterday for the first time in a year or two. I
discovered that one can't use it without having a copy of the instructions
handy. That is, it doesn't say "Press 1 for xxx, press 2 for yyy", etc. It
just asks you, after selecting Easy Touch, to "enter a number". I tried entering
numbers at random and quickly got stuck in a menu option I didn't want, so gave
up and hung up.
I couldn't find my copy of the Easy Touch instructions at home. I didn't have
the foresight to put it where I could find it quickly when I got it 2-3 years
ago.
  So I have two questions:
1. Why doesn't the Easy Touch system tell you which number to press for which
option?
2. Is it possible to get a copy of Easy Touch instructions on-line? I am plan-
ning to see if I can get one at my local branch, but it would be useful to have
this data available by computer too.

I run into this all the time. When it says "enter a number", I
purposely make a mistake (press # only) and then it gives me a
    list of valid entries.

I've run into this as well. They are correctly trying to save the time of
frequent users by keeping the chatter down. However, they don't have an
"out" for the infrequent user. If the systems were set up for 9# to give
out a menu and say that at the entry into the system it would be a lot
friendlier.

Was anybody from the DCU planning on answering the question? It can't
be that hard to update easytouch so that it gives menu options in
real-time. Many other banks and credit unions are capable of putting
together a decent touch-tone phone system why can't the DCU?

This notesfile is not the place to go to get an
answer from DCU. It is a place to share opinions and
information amongst Digital employees. Maybe this is
about to change, but it hasn't happened yet.

To get an answer from DCU, call DCU or talk to someone
at your local branch.
