732.0. "HOT-LINE HELP NEEDED..." by DEMING::GARDNER (justme....jacqui) Sat Jan 01 1994 11:55

    Hi,

I seem to have had a slight problem with my local DCU ATM machine
just a short while ago. IT ATE MY MONEY!!! I DON'T HAVE ANY
METHOD OF DIRECT ACCESS TO GET IT BACK!!! I DON'T HAVE ANY METHOD
OF DIRECT REPORTING OF THIS INCIDENT!!! I want to document the
fact that the machine in the HLO2 Lobby (ATM #271) half-heartedly
offered me my $50.00 cash money from the slot but jammed before I
could grab for it...it closed it's little mouth and then SWALLOWED
MY $50.00 CASH!!! It stayed in a hung state until I decided to
see if asking for another $10.00 would release it plus the extra
$10.00! I only got $10.00 cash and then got a receipt for a
    $10.00 and a $50.00 withdrawal! I WANT MY $50.00!! I WANT A WAY
THAT STUFF LIKE THIS CAN BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY! I CALLED THE
DCU NUMBER...NO LUCK, THEIR MAILBOX IS FULL! TOUCHTONE S*CKS, TOO!

Can you tell that I am p*ssed on New Year's Day??? This is the only
was I could think of to document this event other than making a copy
of my withdrawal slip and noting this event on it to slip under the
door of the HLO2 DCU office!

Has anyone else had a problem like this off-hours? What is the proper
procedure to prove that this has happened? I think the cards or the
machine should have HOT-LINES for this.

I'd get the security guard to put it in the log he/she keeps. I think
you did the right thing by calling the 800 number, obviously over Xmas
the voicemail filled, they should look at fiddling with the PBX to make
    it larger for holidays.

I did get some results from my local DCU branch manager here at
HLO2 this AM. The machine gets balanced today and they also have
a separate compartment for any money that gets SWALLOWED!. You
also have to report it to your money institution if you are using
a FOREIGN card (which I was). This ATM has a time mechanism built
in so that the door closes and the money goes GULP if you don't
react fast enough. I guess I might be a little shy in the future
and use my comb as a door holder-opener as I did when asking for
my other monies after feeding this ATM.

The Shawmut ATM machine used to have a mechanism that would close
the door but leave your money waiting for you or the next person.
I had this happen to me a few years ago when I banked at Shawmut.
What I did was to ask for another five dollars to get the door
open to get my other money out. I don't know what is better!

Thanks for giving me a place to mumble when I needed to.

jacqui,

How long do you have to grab your money before the machine eats it? Is the
timer set too short perhaps, or did you take your clumsy pills that day?

The machine was glitching and had nothing to do with time related
issues. I suggest you check with your local ATM handler to ascertain
the amount of time that your ATM is set to go off in.

jacqui, I'm sorry, it was several hours between the time I read your
.0 and your .3, and I forgot that the machine had jammed before it ate
    your cash.

BTW, my nearest DCU ATM is....Simon, how far are you from Dallas?

I have never lost money in a DCT ATM, but it didn't occur to me until I read
this note that most bank ATM's have a hot-line phone built in, and DCU ATM's
don't. Of course, you not only need a phone, but someone available 24 hours a
day to answer it, and I suppose DCU is too small compared to BayBank etc. to
cover the cost of this service.
732.12Neither do some biggies...ROWLET::AINSLEYLess than 150 kts. is TOO slow!Mon Jan 17 1994 11:194
Hmmm. Never thought about it, but none of the Bank Of America ATMs in Dallas
have hotline phones.

Well, I just got my bank statement! Guess who does not have the
money credited to her account yet??? MOI!!! I called my bank
and chatted with them. They will send out a second request to
DCU. I then checked with my on-site DCU and was given a card
with the DCU number on it to call. I called and got treated to
the touch-tone system. I finally got the person to whom I spoke.
She took some time with me on hold and then gave me the info that
she would call me back. I said this aft, I hope. I am still
waiting for the issue to be resolved. $50 isn't much these days
but it does pay for gas and Tobin's ;*). Good thing I don't have
to run paycheck to paycheck like a lot of people do. This would
    break many a budget.
