The new fee based banking issue has really bothered me. But, putting aside the issue of fees, the issue of a special meeting, petitions, the way this issue (or any issue) is handled (by all sides), and the GMA and non-GMA facilities and services available for members, are issues that don't seem to have been addressed in the past to my satisfaction (one example is the availability of ATMs (free) outside of the GMA). Since the announcement of the imposition of fees, I have been in favor of doing what is necessary to reverse the imposition. I genuinely believe that a Special Meeting is the only way to remove BoD members. I believe that in the US, we (US citizens, generally) don't want to continue fighting issues en-masse. The status-quo is acceptable to most individuals, because of ignorance of any and/or all issues. I further believe that the former BoD was voted out because of the publicity of the previous Special Meeting. When an individual member sees that over 1,000 other members have stood up, that a problem must really exist, and it's time to beat the system (i.e. voting out incumbents). But, not being in the GMA, I felt it was not appropriate for a non-GMA member to stand-up, and lead a call for a special meeting that I was not, or could not, attend and/or lead. My leading the call for a special meeting and not attending the special meeting would be tantamount to my calling on others to fight my fight. So, as a non-GMA member, do all I have is a single vote. Do all non-GMA members not count, except for a single vote and their business (or lack there of). While GMA members have multiple DCU sites, multiple ATMs (free), mortgage loan access (for better or worse), and the ability to attend (and in good conscience call for) special meetings, do non-GMA members deserve some additional consideration. These thoughts have caused me to wonder, just how diverse is our membership. I would like to use this note to determine the split of GMA and non-GMA members, the DCU facilities available (by Digital site code), and the numbers for Digital employees and (if possible) DCU members by site location (see next reply for the Washington D.C. area). Can anyone with access to the information, post the breakdown of membership. (how many members in Mass., N.H., GMA, non-GMA, etc). Whatever information is available would be useful. Also, I would ask that my fellow DCU members consider the possibility of their becoming a kind of 'DCU-member Site Captain', to monitor DCU and BoD activities and to speak to and/or for the local DCU membership. Please state your interest here, or privately via mail (SWAMPD::ZIMMERMANN or Mark Zimmermann @ COP). One final note. Notes files are filled with examples of Digital employees making our feelings known, and senior Digital management listening, and acting accordingly (either modifying, revoking or further explaining the policies in question). The DCU BoD (some), and possibly DCU management, don't appear so inclined. Why is it that those that work for and/or represent us (DCU management and BoD) seemingly feel free to ignore the membership and those that we work for (Digital management) listen, react and respect it's employees. Digital management is a credit to this sort of dialog, DCU management appears not to be. Mark

The local DCU facility here is at DCO (Landover, MD). The site serves the needs of Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland. There are no free ATMs locally. Digital site # Digital employees (dist from DCO, approx) BJO (Baltimore, MD) - 25 miles 119 COP (Greenbelt, MD) - 7 miles 869 DCO (Landover, MD) - n/a 382 VFO (Fairfax, VA) - 30 miles 127 WNP (Washington, D.C.) - 15 miles 35 total digital employees 1532 (today) total DCU member-accounts 2300(*) All numbers are approximate. (*) The value of 2300 member accounts is from the local DCU Branch Manager. She indicates this does not include family accounts. This number is larger then I expected, but considering TFSO and the like, I have no reason to question it's validity. | |||||
