572.0. "CheckFree" by BROKE::JONES (Ed Jones DTN: 264-6033 NU01-1/B09) Wed Jun 24 1992 21:39

If you have a PC or Mac with a Hayes compatable modem, CheckFree may be
something you want to consider.

CheckFree is an automated check writing service. You simply run the
application to fill a check. The CheckFree application will call up a host and
direct payments to the merchants you choose. EFTs you go to vendors which
accept EFTs. Otherwise a laser check is sent.

The costs are around $10 for 20 checks per month and $4 for each additional 10
checks per month. There is a free evaluation period.

The software includes:

o Automated Check register. It is a breeze to balance each month.
o Simple budgeting. Deposits can be directed to definable catagories/line
  items.
o Interface to common tax packages (haven't used this yet)
o Reports to disk or printers, straight text or Postscript.
o Recurring payments. This really helps to avoid forgetting a payment and
  incurring penalties.
o Backup and archieve.
o Sales and Support folks are accessable via Electronic mail interface or via
the Enet via the Internet and CompuServe. (Never needed support)

Transactions in the register can be Checkfree or Non-Checkfree even recurring
payments. An autmatic payroll deposit, check hand written or a Non-Checkfree
EFT are considered Non-Checkfree and can be entered separately.

The last time I checked, they had over 50000 customers.

The Checkfree folks put a lot a thought into their software. It automates well
the processes performed by most customers. I'm looking forward to Beta testing
the next release.

Feel free to send mail to me if you are interested in evaluating the service.

I just bought Quicken for Windows. CheckFree came with it.

I've used Quicken for a couple of years. I couldn't live without it
now, and it does everything you need for accounting for personal use
except for tax printouts, and interfaces to those kinds of programs.
It's even great for small businesses, payrolls, etc.

As for Checkfree, I tried to use it but they want security of a credit
card, and would not accept American Express. I don't use Mastercard or
    visa.

    This is a problem.

I am using Quicken version 4 and also would not want to do without it. Bank
statements done in minutes.

IT allows you to sset up categories and define them as taxable etc. and you
can use this to feed tax programs such as turbo tax. Most of the categories
are there already but you may wish to add some.

I also provides for you to keep track of your investments and what your % of
loss or gain and current value. you can run reports for cash flow, budgets etc.

I bought the upgrade to 5 but don't use it that much as it will not run on my
rainbow (using code blue) and I don't put too much personal stuff on the
DECstation I have. Version 5 (dOS) has some new features including mouse
that is nice. Version 5 for windows does not have all of the features of
version 5 DOS.

You can order checks through them as well that are set up for your printer.

The primary use is just like filling in a check register except that it never
makes transposition errors or math errors etc.

Try it you will like it,
