568.0. "A complaint" by YNGSTR::REEBENACKER (Most Difficult <>) Fri Jun 12 1992 15:02

How does the DCU go about choosing or reviewing the Check printing company that
it does business with?

My wife and I have opened a joint checking account under her badge number, in
addition to the checking account she already had in her own name. We have
tried to get checks printed for the new account, they have failed to get it
right in FOUR attempts.

First attempt: last name mispelled

Second attempt: My name missing

Third attempt: At first we thought they got it right, until we found out that
our checks were being charged to my wife's personal account, so
               the account number was wrong.

Fourth attempt: last name mispelled exactly the same way as the first attempt.

The DCU people up in MK have been helpful, but they tell that the problem is
with the printer.

We're getting frustrated, this is unacceptable, is there any way to put some
pressure on the printer to get their act together?

Because of cost, etc, I have started using Current Inc, not Harland
(whom is at lease the special order company).

I expect that you (like me) are used to having your name misspelled :-)

I would ask the branch manager in MKO to get you correctly printed checks,
at _no_ charge, within perhaps two weeks. No doubt a branch manager can't
authorize such a thing all alone; I would ask him or her to make the
request, on the spot, or else to tell me who I should talk to.

       Hi Karl,

My new wife and I had the same problem with the DCU getting
checks printed. They did finally get them right, but what a pain!

Hey, DCU, are you listening !!!!!

    Hi John,

They finally got it right the 5th try. I'm generally used to having to
spell my name for people, but this is the first time I've ever had a
    mistake on getting checks printed.

Maybe some people are leery of making complaints, but the DCU should
encourage them. (Maybe not in this notesfile, though. :-)) How else
    will they know?

My wife and I got mis-spelled checks from another bank. They were
apologetic, thanked us for calling them, said that they had received
several complaints about the check vendor, and credited us for the cost
    of the checks.

We have ordered checks from most all of the independent check printers. We
only had one problem in the past 10 years. When we moved into our present
house, we sent in the check re-order form and corrected our address on the
form. We have alway gotten our checks within 2 weeks of placing the order, so
when we didn't get anything after 2 weeks, we called. It turns out that
the checks had the old zip code on them. Current immediately replaced the
order, told us to throw away the wrong ones when then eventually showed up,
and had new checks in our hands in 3 days. How did the zip code get messed
up? Well, our old zip code was 75052 and our new one is 75025. Doesn't take
a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

I have been with DCU since day one when they changed from Workers's
Credit Union. I have had a minimal number of errors but have been
compensated each time that something went wrong.

Take the time we had an error on our checks. DCU cheerfully replaced
them. One day a very large box arrived at the house. I opened it up
and there were 10 boxes, with 250 checks per box in this large box. We
only wanted 500 check though. Then 2 days later comes another order of
10 boxes with 250 checks per box. Needless to say that was 6 years ago
and we're still using the checks. Great inflation fighter, don't you
    think?
