508.1 | | TOMK::KRUPINSKI | I'm voting for 'REAL CHOICES' candidates in the DEFCU election | Tue Mar 24 1992 12:36 | 5 |
| I can think of several obstacles, but why don't we cross that
bridge *after* it becomes apparent that the DEFCU is beyond
recovery. Most of us haven't given up hope yet.

Worth considering but do you think DEC would give it the same support
(ie space, equipment, etc.)? DEC and DCU seem to be involved in a
pretty heavy hug at this point in time.

| I'll admit that I've have the same thought as Jack, but I basically
agree with Tom in .1. The "DCU", as they call it, is not yet
beyond hope!
If this election turns into a fiasco, I probably will give up on
the "DCU" as a financial institution. At that point, I could
easily be persuaded to look into other possibilities . . .

508.4 | Me too | STAR::BUDA | DCU Elections - Vote for a change... | Tue Mar 24 1992 17:33 | 14 |
| This is my 'last' effort for DCU. If things clean up, then I will
stay. If they do not, then I will move on and close all my accounts,
but one with $5. The worst part for DCU, is they will loose a fool,
'me', who pays to use other members money. They will loose very little
deposit money but a lot of money that is loaned out.
It worries me to see so many, inconsistances with Chuck and DCU's new
management style. He has done some VERY good things. At the same
time, he has ignored guidelines and not stood the middle ground. I
expected him to not pcik sides, but should have known better.
IMHO, he will not be around at DCU for too many years.

508.5 | The future is bright... | AOSG::GILLETT | Petition candidate for DCU BoD | Tue Mar 24 1992 22:32 | 9 |
| WEll, I hope it won't come this another CU.
Despite all the problems we've had, I am fully
convinced that the future is promising and bright
for DCU. All the attention placed on DCU has
cetainly sensitized people and raised their level
of awareness. Hopefully, this awareness will
help prevent future problems before they get started.

508.6 | A really independent CU? | XCUSME::LEVY | | Wed Mar 25 1992 07:37 | 16 |
| I too have not given up home for DCU yet.
I do think it is never too soon to think of alternatives, though.
Another credit union would be an excellent way to start fresh. It
would offer an opportunity to begin without incestuous entanglements.
I, for one, don't think that it's necessary for DEC to pick up the
overhead tab for an employee credit union. It's not really all that
much savings in the long run, especially compared to the losses
suffered at the hands of Managone, et al. If DEC didn't have so
much "invested" (whatever that support adds up to), perhaps there
wouldn't be quite so much "interest" in controlling the credit union.
I would look forward to a credit union owned and run entirely
by the members, with not even a whiff of outside influence. Is there
a precedent for this? Are most credit unions semi-supported/run (or
influenced) by the employees' company?

There is nothing that requires a credit union to be affiliated with any
specific employer. The credit union I joined yesterday, has its field
of membership defined as those people who live in, work in, or are
employed by companies located in, certain suburbs of Dallas.

| Forming a new credit union looks relatively easy. Maybe we should contact NCUA
to find out what is required. From the statute, all you need is 7 members to
start, and some startup payments.

RE: .10
Hey now, don't go associating the Real Digital Employees' Federal Credit
Union (RDECU) with that bunch of fiscally responsible representatives.
Hopefully RDECU would be able to at least computerize their records...
