I'd like to propose a "Meet the Candidates" program for the DCU Special
Election.  I envision a series of evening sessions, on four different
nights, each at a different location.  These would be relaxed, low-key,
and (hopefully) low-stress opportunities for DCU members to get to know
the candidates for the Board of Directors.

These meetings should start once the petition candidates' petitions
are verified, and finish in plenty of time for members to return their
ballots.

I'd recommend one session near Maynard, another in the Littleton/Boxboro
area, and one in Nasua (but I'm not an expert on Digital's geography -
if you can suggest other, better locations, do so!).

Each session should commence as soon after the normal workday as is
practical (say, 5:30?).  Each site should have a local host to
arrange a room and (he said hopefully) light refreshments, paid for
by contributions from members (NOT candidates!).  I can offer overall
help in coordinating the whole series, and act as host (or co-host) for
the Littleton/Boxboro area (have you ever visited LTN-2?  How about
King Street [LKG]?).

I would especially like to hear responses from candidates - would you
welcome this opportunity?  Is this too much extra work for you?  Or
would you like this chance to meet the membership?

I attended the "Petition Drive Pizza Party", and I really liked having
the chance to meet the petition candidates.  I would also like a chance
to get to know the candidates I haven't met yet.

Are the candidates interested?  Are there DCU members who can help by
hosting an evening?  Is this whole idea nonsense?

	I think this is a good idea but it does leave out the candidates who are not from the GMA. We have several candidates here in Colorado. I would offer a counter proposition...how about several sessions on different days at sites where a televideo conference can be set up? I don't know if this is possible due to the fact that the televideo conference would have to use Digital equipment. That might be able to be approved through the site manager. This would give even the non-local candidates a fair chance. Nanci

	I think this is an excellent idea. If the teleconferencing can be arranged, great, but even without it would be very helpful. An essential part of this should be to invite ALL of the candidates, and try to make the format unthreatening to them all. I truly want to hear from the establishment candidates, but if they don't show up then that fact itself should say something to everyone who attends. Paul

	I would be willing to tape the meting, so that copies can be made available for anyone. This would be another way to see what the person believes and says. - mark

	Re: .7 My primary goal in proposing a "Meet the Canidates" night is that it be a relaxed environment for everyone, with a chance for face-to-face interaction. My reaction to the idea of telepresence is that it's stretching my initial idea, but in a positive direction - including people who can't be physically present. My reaction to the idea of TAPING the meeting is that it would place too much pressure on individuals to perform for the video audience, and detract from my goal of getting to know the candidates as individuals. That is why I proposed the "debate" format as a separate topic. (Heading for a, if I understand the quaint colloquial term correctly, "rathole":) I assume that candidates from remote sites - say, Colorado - are acquainted with the provisions in the Bylaws concerning telepresence and physical presence at meetings? - - Steve

	I also think this is a good idea. Something along the lines of Chuck Cockburn's "Meet the President Tour" could surely be worked out by the folks at DCU to allow us to meet as many candidates as possible.
