458.0. "Rich Luciano - BOD candidate" by MRKTNG::LUCIANO (RICH LUCIANO @TTB) Fri Feb 07 1992 10:05

I'd like to thank the petition organizers for their work in getting a
sufficient number of signatures to get me on the DCU BOD ballot.

    Thank you!

FYI...On two previous occasions, I submitted my credential to the DCU's
nominating committee for their review. On both occasions, I
interviewed with the nominating committee (different committees each
time), and on both occasions, was approved and nominated for election.

On both occasions, during the election process, I believe I gathered
the most votes for a non-incumbent.

For the above reasons, I though it strange that this nominating
committee did not select me to appear on the ballot this time. I can
only surmise that my experience at Digital has made me less qualified
to serve, or that past nominating committees made a mistake in their
selection process, or that this nominating committee's "due diligence"
    process was flawed.

I continue to want to serve the DCU members on the board and have taken
appropriate action to appear on the ballot.

The next note will have my candidacy statement from previous elections.

The statement below appeared on last years ballot....please note, at
that time I saw a need to have a non-incumbent elected. I continue
to believe that the BOD needs new ideas, needs to serve as a
"check-and-balance" to DCU management, and MUST BE RESPONSIBLE TO
    THE DCU MEMBERS.

    RICHARD LUCIANO

The responsibility of the DCU is to its members. You should expect
    competitive:
    	- DEPOSIT RATES
    	- LOAN RATES
        - FINANCIAL SERVICES

My goal is to achieve these objectives in a cost efficient, secure
manner, consistent with the changes occurring in the Digital
    population.

    My qualifications include:
    	- Marketing Executive, Digital
    	- Board of Directors, Polaroid Credit Union
    	- M.B.A., Dartmouth College
        - B.S. Engineering, Northeastern University

As a board member of the Polaroid Credit Union, I have accomplished
these objectives for its membership. If elected to the DCU, I will
work to achieve these objectives for you.

Please, elect a non-incumbent, with new ideas.

I cannot be the only one who wishes the membership had listened to you
last time. I'm listening now.

Thanks for being willing to try again, Richard.

    Rich,

I have been slow to get started with signatures for candidates (for
various reasons that would only sound like excuses - so ...) but I will
work from this end to get as many signatures for you and all the
candidates - especially those that are not yet over 800 signatures.

You will be on the ballot with the rest of us.

    Good luck.
458.4please, say more about your viewsCIMNET::KYZIVATPaul KyzivatFri Feb 07 1992 18:1315
Rich,

One request I would make of you:

Your recycled statement was designed to fit past years requirements of
brevity. I noticed that in comparison with those of the other petition
candidates it is very lacking in detail.

IMHO it would be to your own benefit to make a new statement which
addresses this year's issues, and which is as long as it needs to be to
show us how you think. Eventually you will need a 150 word statement, but
for now there is no such limit.

Hope to see you on the ballot,
	Paul

In light of the DCU activities of the past year, I stand by my previous
statement, but offer the detail below as elaboration on some points:

BOD has responsibilities to the DCU membership:
   	- to be an independent body from DCU management (not a rubber stamp)
   	- to understand the market conditions and assure competitive rate
   	  structures and security
   	- to offer services required by the membership, but consistent with
   	  good business practices
   	- to communicate to the membership on a more timely basis

Each one of these points, and more, can have several pages of detail
behind it.....but what it all leads to is that the BOD needs new ideas,
independent thoughts, the ability to understand the market, and the sense
to make decisions consistent with the requirements of those members that
elected that person to represent them.

The new board must regain the faith of the membership before the
membership finds alternative financial institutions at which to do
   business.

Think of some of the things that have happened or have been alleged to
happen......checking account fees....actions that lead to the dismissal of
   the president of the board....etc.

I think its time for a change...and I believe we need at least a few
people on the board that have not been approved by the nominating
committee. (FYI...THIS WAS THE FIRST NOMINATING COMMITTEE THAT I HAVE EVER
INTERVIEWED WITH THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE CREDIT UNION SAT ON THE
COMMITTEE.....BECUASE OF THIS ARRANGEMENT, IT COULD LEAD ONE TO BELIEVE
THAT THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE BOD, FROM MANAGEMENT, HAS BEEN COMPROMISED.)

I am puzzled by seeing that you have experience in just such a
position with another credit union. I find it remarkable that
coupled with the other data that this committee didn't see fit
to recommend your candidacy OR is it "telling" rather than
    remarkable. Good luck.

458.7Nominating committeeMRKTNG::LUCIANORICH LUCIANO @TTBTue Feb 11 1992 15:1510
I'll let the membership be the judge as to whether the nominating
committee was correct/incorrect in not approving my candidacy....even
though I was approved by two previous DCU nominating commmittees on two
prior DCU elections....and have served on a BOD of another Credit
    Union.

I have my thoughts as to the reasons....but until I sit on the BOD, I
    think it inappropriate to comment.

    Thank you for your support.

I would venture the opinion that even if you WERE on the Board of Directors,
it would STILL be inappropriate to comment on this subject without first
discussing the subject with the members of the nominating committee - and
making sure they were comfortable with public discussion of the subject.

I agree. Be certain that I will ask the correct questions when the
time is right.....for my own satisfaction.
