422.0. "DCU POSTING: VEHICLE AND MORTGAGE INFORMATION" by STAR::CANTOR (Have pun, will babble.) Mon Jan 20 1992 11:24

                   DIGITAL EMPLOYEES' FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
                       VEHICLE AND MORTGAGE INFORMATION

The following articles appeared in the January issue of
        NETWORK:

CAR DEALERS' "DEALS" AREN'T WHAT THEY APPEAR TO BE!
Don't be fooled by low rate financing. You'll pay thousands
more because the price isn't negotiable. Furthermore, the
financing terms involve large downpayments and short repayment
periods. The fact is, "What good is a low rate if you pay
more for the car, or if you can't afford the downpayment or
        make the monthly payments?"

NEGOTIATE THE PRICE, TAKE THE REBATE AND FINANCE WITH DCU
The best way to by a car is to negotiate the selling price.
There has been enough consumer information published which
suggests dealers are "willing to deal", particularly in these
times. If there are rebates involved, look at them as an
additional or bonus savings. Finance through DCU. Rates for
new vehicle loans start as low as 9.90% and used vehicle loans
start at 11.75%. With these low rates, now is the time to
lock-in a fixed, low financing rate. And, DCU's new 72-month
repayment option on new vehicles allows the lowest monthly
        payments available.

SHOP WITH "CASH IN YOUR POCKET" AND AVOID THE PRESSURE
There's a sure way to negotiate with the upper hand. Arrange
to have your car loan amount preapproved at DCU. Since the
approval is good for 90 days, you can take your time to find
the right car and negotiate the best deal - without the
pressure, It's like shopping with "cash in you pocket!"

        48 HOUR APPROVALS
We've streamlined our application process so you can get
preapproved even faster. That way you can start looking
around now and when the promotions are announced, you'll be
        ready to deal.

For an application, contact your nearest DCU branch, or call
our Member service center at DTN/223-8444 or 508/493-8444.

MORTGAGE RATES ARE THE LOWEST IN 25 YEARS. NOW IS THE TIME TO
        BUY OR REFINANCE
While there is still debate on when the economy will rebound,
one thing is certain: Interest rates have dropped to their
lowest level in 25 years. So, now is the time to consider
buying a home or refinancing your existing mortgage and/or
home equity loan(s). The savings in lower monthly payments
could be substantial. Or, you could refinance at the lower
rate, hold your mortgage payment(s) the same and get the
available equity or cash our for other uses like home
improvements, tuition or a new vehicle.

To find out if buying or refinancing makes sense for you, call
our First Mortgage Department at 508/493-6735 or DTN/223-6735,
extension 316. (DCU First Mortgages available in MA, NH, VT,
        CO, ME, NY, NJ.)
