396.0. "Special-Election Candidates -- offer of support" by MLTVAX::SCONCE (Bill Sconce) Thu Nov 21 1991 03:25

The goal of this topic is to make it possible to use NOTES as one mechanism
of establishing communication between potential candidates in the special
election and those who wish to be of service to them. (See topic 395.* for
a request for volunteers to support all candidates' access to the campaign
process.)

This is a different kind of need from that of 395.*, however. Although I
know of several people who have decided to run for the Board in the Special
Election, there are likely to be more out there who may not have wanted to
come forward yet. And who may not want to let the competition know who
they are! :)

But any reluctance on our part to communicate could have the effect of denying
you the services of the volunteers who want to guarantee you the means of
being presented to, and reaching, the voters, should you choose to run. And
any such difficulty in lining up petition support for those who want it could
only act to the benefit of the incumbents.

Here's what I propose in this note: if you're thinking of running, or even
just considering it, send me MAIL.

I WILL TREAT EVERYONE'S NAME FROM THIS COMMUNICATION AS CONFIDENTIAL. I WILL
SHARE IT WITH NO ONE AND REVEAL IT TO NO ONE WITHOUT YOUR PERMSISSION.

I guess this means I'm not going to run. :) But I'd rather be of service
in this way.

Other promises on rules:

o This will be nothing but a mailing list.

o Nothing will be sent to anyone on this list that is not sent
      to everyone on it.

o Further comments on how this should work, or how to improve it,
are welcome. Please send MAIL, though. I think it best to make
this posting a one-way "ad" -- please don't reply here.

Everyone in DCU (all of the disenfranchised, anyway) thank you for offering
your time and energy in the pursuance of a better DCU. (Whether or not you
choose to make use of any of this volunteer stuff.)

396.1Some thoughts on goalsMLTVAX::SCONCEBill SconceThu Nov 21 1991 03:2825
(Cross-posted as 395.1)

Here's what should be the common basis for all of our actions as we support
the Special Elections and try to make them work.

o A STRONG, HEALTHY CREDIT UNION

+ strong implies good fiscals, good management
+ healthy implies good relations between staff
             and shareholders, between shareholders, between
             Board and shareholders

     o A HARMONIOUS, NON-DIVISIVE ATMOSPHERE

Everything we'll do in supporting the Special Election will be directed toward
these goals. The Special Election effort should not take part in pursuing
the missing records, guessing what went on, or any of that -- others can do
that. (Or Special Election volunteers can do that too, just not part of the
Special Election mobilization.)

The thought experiment by which we could determine if we've succeeded might be
to deliver a new DCU which members are glad to do business with, which they
trust, which is open with them, which listens to them, and to which formerly
alienated members bring back their business.
