376.0. "BoD Candidate Tour '91" by GUFFAW::GRANSEWICZ (Someday, DCU will be a credit union.) Thu Nov 14 1991 16:54

In an effort to get people to meet and speak with all BoD candidates, I
propose that a "BoD Candidate Tour '91" take place. Heck, if it's good
enough for Chuck Cockburn, it's good enough for the BoD candidates.
Nothing like good face-to-face contact and Q&A.

People at individual sites can make the room arrangements, candidates
can be notified, those that can attend will be posted.

Who wants to do security? I hear these meetings with Directors can be
    pretty tough. 8-)

    What do you think?

How about taping them, (with the candidates permission) for us out in the
boonies.

Now that you mention it, maybe DVN would be possible. But taping would
probably be likely. We could make a BoD tape of all candidates, giving
resume and descriptions and asked a specific set of questions.

376.3Yes! Debates!MLTVAX::SCONCEBill SconceFri Nov 15 1991 09:0120
Good ideas!

We have two clear necessities now:

  1) To be prepared to gather petition signatures for all interested
      candidates

  2) To help get real platform and bio information out -- and not just
to those members having e-net access

Item 1) is critical, but we can predict with 100% certainty that we will
deliver it. Item 2) can use all the inventiveness and engery we can muster.
Perhaps the Nominating Committee itself will, just this once, respond to the
broader interest and provide for more than 100 words in the official ballot
statement. But more information earlier, not to mention reaching those
DCU owners who as yet may not even know of the election, will make a real
difference.

Just think: videotaped (or DVN!) debates! A fate devoutly to be wished!
376.4I would like to be informedCSC32::MORTONALIENS! A new kind of BreakfastSat Nov 16 1991 03:0127

This is my first entry. I just heard about the problems the day of
the meeting. I would have attended but I am also in Colorado.

I was thinking of starting my own note on BoD Candidates. I am
in favor of Debates, if at all possible. If they aren't, then personal
    statements would be appreciated.

In either case, I feel that DVN, Tape, notes, and Official DCU
notice release on each Candidate be used.

I really want to know who I am voting for, and a DEBATE is the best
    way for me to judge.

It sounds like those of you who are classified as trouble-makers
are doing a bang up job. I applaud your efforts. I appreciate your
work and dedication. I am sure that at times you are scared, but you
have shown true courage. Not many have the guts you have shown.

Please help me and those who like me, don't know the qualifications
of ANY of the candidates. I have never voted (shame on me) in DCU
elections, because I did not know anything about those that were
running. In fact I had no way of knowing anything about them. I now
see a chance to make an informed decision. Please make it happen.

    Thanks much
    Jim Morton
376.5Debates are an interesting ideaLJOHUB::SYIEKSun Nov 17 1991 17:4130
	RE: -.1

Hi, Jim. Welcome to the conference. Too bad you couldn't attend the
special meeting. You missed a, how to put it, most interesting
	experience.

I just wanted to say that I too had never bothered to return a DCU
ballot. What's more, judging from the vote totals, we're certainly
representative of the large majority of DCU members. Of course, it's
arguable whether it was necessary to have voted over the first few
years of the Credit Union's history, when it was very successful.
The point is, whether due to simple voter apathy, a lack of
information, or both, the low voter turnout went a long way towards
perpetuating the consistent reelection of incumbent candidates.
Hopefully, current events will change that (though it would not
be surprising to see high participation in the special election,
and a considerable drop off in subsequent ones). Given the
extraordinary events of the past few weeks, however, every DCU
member should have an opportunity to vote for improvements in the way
DCU is operated. One can only hope that many will take advantage of
that opportunity, and at least take the time to vote, if not in
actively participating in the election process.

I also like your idea of debates, but as of right now, there's still
a lot of questions about how the process will be run. For instance,
will their be sufficient time for campaign events between whenever
candidates are nominated and when the elections are held? Time will
	tell...

376.6We should mail "Read my lips" tapes to DC (:-)TLE::INSINGAAron Insinga, zk2-3/n30 office 3n50Mon Nov 18 1991 12:332
Given those "no recording" signs at the Special Meeting, I fully expect that
they would say that taping is prohibited upon (some) lawyer's advice.

Is it wrong or bad for us to send some sort of statement to everyone we
can think of in our mailing lists? If it is against policy or whatever
than let's not do it, but I often get mails that have been forwarded a
million times and seem to have been all over the company (exagerated of
course) judging by the headers. I mean, if we all did this a
significant number of people would be reached (agreed not all,
especially those of course without net access).
