HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CREDIT UNION DAY
Thursday, October 17, 1991
Your local union joins with 77 million credit union members
around the world in celebration of International Credit Union
Day.
CREDIT UNIONS: PASSPORTS TO OPPORTUNITY
From the great depression to the S&L crisis, credit
unions have shown their strength during times of fiscal
crisis by providing a solid alternative to traditional
banking.
o LOW INTEREST LOANS
o HIGH INTEREST SAVINGS
o RELIABLE PERSONAL SERVICE
On January 17, 1927, The Credit Union League of
Massachusetts, Inc. celebrated National Credit Union Day,
the first official holiday for credit union members and
workers. January 17th was chosen because it was the birthday
of America's ``Apostle of Thrift'', [Yes, they put the comma
after the quotes. B.J.] Benjamin Franklin. (1706--1790).
In 1964, International Credit Union Day was established to
recognize credit union achievements globally. There are
approximately 34,000 credit unions in 79 nations serving 77
million members around the world today.
[The advertisement contains the names and logos of six local
credit unions--not including DCU, but I know of no DCU branches
in the area served by the paper. At the bottom is the name and
logo of Credit Union League of Massachusetts, Inc. and the
slogan ``*Together* we make things happen.''.
I wonder what DCU is doing to celebrate this day? B.J.]

RE: .0
Thanks for that timely info.

Sounds like just the slogan we need for the special meeting!
> I wonder what DCU is doing to celebrate this day? B.J.]
DCU members will be celebrating it a little late this year. Nov. 12
will be an interesting exercise of credit union democracy.

Perhaps this is an orginization that we could contact for support?
If DCU is the largest CU in the state, why isn't it already a
member?

Re: .2
I don't know if DCU is a member of the organization, but I
expect that it is. Why do you expect that it isn't? Nothing
in .0 implies that DCU is not a member.

If DCU were a member, and is the largest CU in the state, I would
expect to see their logo right in the middle, very much like John
Hancock's signature. Wouldn't you put your most prominent members
up front isn such an ad?

The advertisement didn't contain the names of the largest credit
unions in the state, only the credit unions in the Fitchburg/
Leominster area. As far as I know, DCU has no branches in that
area. The nearest branches are in Littleton, and no Littleton
area credit unions are listed.

But isn't there a branch in Westminster? And that's generally considered to be in the Fitchburg/Leominster area. | |||||
| 320.7 | No branch in Westminster | ULTRA::HERBISON | B.J. | Fri Oct 18 1991 10:32 | 24 |
I didn't know about the DCU branch in Westminster. None of the
six credit unions listed a branch in Westminster, but they may
cover Westminster.
There is another reason (which I didn't think of until this
morning) why DCU doesn't fit with the listed credit unions--the
credit unions participating in the advertisement are all (I
believe) open to the general public, but DCU membership is
restricted to individuals with a Digital connection. Has anyone
seen a DCU advertisement somewhere other than a Digital forum?
For those who care, the listed credit unions and locations are:
Leominster CU: Leominster, Clinton, Holden
Worker's CU: Fitchburg, Gardner, Orange
FIA CU: Fitchburg
IC Federal CU: Fitchburg, Leominster
Pyralart Community CU: Leominster
Heritage Community FCU: Leominster
Four `credit unions' and two `federal credit unions'
(like Digital Employees' Federal Credit Union).
