| In MRO1, the DCU branch doesn't close for lunch. Here in WMO, they
close for lunch. If MRO1 can figure out how to do it, why can't the
other branches?

| This policy was implemented about 6-8 months ago. I agree it is
stupid, but remember DCU is not trying to serves its owners, in this
case.
It cut an hour out of its open time. That is quite a bit... I get
burnt every now and then by this.

249.3 | ZKO ATM is shutdown at noon | XAPPL::CLARK | Ward Clark | Thu Jul 11 1991 18:43 | 9 |
| I regularily go to lunch at 12:00, and I pass right by the ZKO DCU
office and ATM machine. There is nearly always a line waiting for
the tellers, which stands to reason because others stop on their way
to lunch.
But there's hardly ever a line at the ATM machine. That's because it's
being "fed and burped".

>What does DCU management say about this?
I called the DCU and told them that I'd like to register a
complaint about the business hours at some of their branches
(see base note).
The person that I talked to said that the reason that the branches
are closed during these hours is, get this...
TO PROVIDE BETTER SERVICE TO OUR CUSTOMERS
Their logic goes somewhat like this: Most customers run to the
DCU during a normal lunch hour, which is approximately 11:30 to
12:30. They staff the branch with two tellers during that period.
If they stagger lunch hours to remain open continuously from
08:00 to 16:00, then customer satisfaction will suffer because
the window will be staffed by only one teller and therefore
the lines will be longer during the staggered lunch hour.
See?
I told her that if that were the case I'd probably have to wait
maybe 10 minutes. Not unreasonable. But now I have to wait for
another 45 minutes (it was 1 PM at the time). I told her that
I have never had to wait 45 minutes for service at any bank or
credit union. I asked which is preferable: to wait 10 minutes
or to wait 45 minutes? She didn't have an answer to that.
In fairness to her she did promise to bring the subject up in
her next staff meeting. But she didn't promise anything.
I agree with the previous noter that the DCU does not operate
for the convenience of the customer.

Thank you, DCU BOD and DCU management for changing the SHR branch DCU hours
to be open uninterrupted from 8am-4pm. It's greatly appreciated by this DCU
customer. These are the kinds of things that will convince me to bring more
of my business back to DCU.

All DCU branches will be going to this schedule. Some consultants we
brought in listed this as the first thing to do to improve service to
the membership. I started applauding. This was one of the FIRST things
we brought to a vote when we were elected. But there was push back on
opening the smaller branches that had fewer tellers. Why it took a
consultants say so to get it done is beyond me. I guess common sense
is not enough.

As the Good Book says a prophet is not respected in his own
country. This incident is not isolated by any means. My father
was often incredulous during his career as a CFO with three
different companies which paid big bucks to hear consultants tell
them what different employees had been telling them for months.
