237.0. "PNO DCU Office is Closing" by UPWARD::SPECKS () Fri Feb 15 1991 16:13

DCU has announced the closure of the Phoenix Office to coincide with
the closing of the Phoenix (PNO) site. Some support will be offered
at the Tempe facility till this summer. If you have an opinion on
this closure the following person at DCU can be contacted.

I personally feel that the DCU office should be relocated to TFO and
the personnel should be allowed to continue to provide the same
excellent service that they have in the past.

The person to contact to express your opinion on this closure is:

237.1Is anybody listening to us out here?CANYON::LENFLen F. Winmill @TFO, DTN 566-4783Fri Feb 22 1991 17:0232
I have already made the call mentioned and was given to believe that
there is nothing that can be done.

Given that this office has been here for 10 years, I think that a much
different criteria should be given to removing the only office in the
state that is used to establish an office in the beginning.

Furthermore, in the process of the "COD" relocations there are several
of us that have moved to the Tempe office from New England. I find it a
real shock to have the only office in this state removed. I have used
DCU for all of my banking for 10+ years. I don't see how I can continue
to do so if this office really closes.

There really is space in TFO2 to locate the office.

If anyone in the decision making hierarchy reads this notes file,
please give this decision a lot of careful consideration and see if you
can't justify keeping the office in Arizona. Or even Move it to TFO for
a year, do a little promotion for new customers and see how business is
    before removing it completely.

Consider that the likelihood of a person in the TFO plant using the
Credit Union is much higher when the office moves here than is was when
the office was 30 miles away in PNO.

Please reconsider before you cut off a lot of long time customers as
well laying off a couple of loyal long time employees.

    Thanks

Welcome to the real world. I'd like to have a DCU office in my state
too, but DCU must make decisions like the rest of us in that the
benefit must exceed the cost. If DCU put a branch/ATM where everyone
wanted one, it would either go broke or be even more uncompetetive in
the financial services it offers, than it is now.

There may be other answers to this issue. Rather than a branch
office or a automatic teller, maybe the DCU could support a "shared
service center" whereby DCU customers have privileges at an non-DCU
    facility.

If the DCU is not already looking at this alternative, maybe you
    could suggest it.

237.4In retrospect, the did the right thing.CANYON::LENFLen F. Winmill @TFO, DTN 566-4783Thu Oct 10 1991 16:0821
A follow on to this note.

DCU determined a means to continue to ATM without an office here. The
ATM is serviced by Wells Fargo (as I recall) and the deposits etc are
    sent to the DCU elsewhere.

An additional service, Check Guarantee Cards, which are asked for in
many business in this state was dropped, but I was advised to show my
DCU Visa card, it has worked in all but one case.

There have been a rather significant number of layoffs in this area so
I rather doubt that an office could be justified today.

In summary I must say that the DCU made the right choice not to
maintain the office and they found a way to keep adequate service.

For what it is worth, a thanks in a time when the DCU is really getting
    hammered.

Are any other remote areas receiving Check Guarantee Cards valid only
until June '92 or is Arizona the only victim?

Common practice out West.

Bank or credit union gives you a card backing your checks to a stated dollar
limit. This way you can use a check anywhere, and not just where you have
"courtesy cards".
