233.0. "EASYTOUCH & cleared checks" by MSBCS::KING (VSS Software Support @BXB dtn:293-5677) Tue Jan 15 1991 18:08

I'm wondering how soon the EASYTOUCH system will have the capability to
tell the user which checks have cleared. I called the DCU hotline back
in September and was told this function was coming soon.

Any ideas/hints as to when this will happen?

    Thanks,

I've spoken to someone named Mike Casey at DCU twice in the past
three months about when the Easytouch system will have the
capability of retrieving information on checks that have cleared
     your account.

The last time was today. Both times he has told me that its in
the works, its definately coming but he can't give me a definate
date. What's the holdup? The new instruction forms need to be
printed up and distributed to members.

I suspect Mike is a computer operator because he is not a
programmer. Although I don't want to put him on the spot because
he is not the person making decisions, I would like to speak to a
manager or someone in charge to get more specific information. He
told me to write to the communications department.

If anybody has any ideas or more information, please let me know.

     Thanks,

While talking of easytouch, I started to use it the other day, and
found it relatively useful, (but I would like to see check info roll
    back capability...)

BUt I have some other suggestions. Some people have posted in here,
some notes on the "codes" for easytouch. Unfortunately they differ,
based on the number and type of accounts that you have. With a
statement once a year, it would be nice to see, a little credit card
size (customized) guide to my use of easytouch.

I have written one up for myself, and will "Postscript-ize" it sooon,
but it would be a big boost for Easytouch...

Also, I'd like to see some "voice tuning" of the dectalk...

The basic codes don't differ from member to member. From off the back

You were speaking to the manager or supervisor of member services.
I have spoken with Mike a couple of times. He is not a computer operator.
What "manager" are you looking for?

Why would you find the fact that the access code is printed on the form
    so unusual?

Whne you get a ATM/debit card the number is also printed somewhere...
why should this be any different. Besides, knowing someones access
code for easytouch is less damaging than knowing someones ATM card
    code.

Having the access code will allow you to move money around, but still
you can't obtain anyones elses money... those other transactions can
be reversed... but having someones ATM code (and card) allows you to
    remove money...

EasyTOuch is helpful, but the UI is at best awkward given the IO device it
has to work with. I would very much like to have a modem and form
interface, and hopefully a gateway to the easynet. While it wouldn't be
economical for most banks to offer something like that because not enough
of their customer base would have the equipment to use it, I think the DCU
member body would provide sufficient users. The legalities of connecting
it to easynet might be questionable, but would be extremely valuable.

With some of the 'stuff' floating around networks in the past, not sure
I'd want my credit union to have what you describe. I'm not sure the added
convenience is worth the potential for damage or harm.

But then, I'm a cautious sort when it comes to this stuff.

Re: .12

As I said, connection to EasyNet would be questionable for various reasons,
one of which is that network traffic is not in any way confidential, so at
a minimum there would need to be a USER BEWARE warning.

The modem interface isn't so bad. Probably the worst problem is to prevent
cracking the PIN through exhaustive trying. This is just like breaking a
password, and probably the four digit PIN would need to be changed to many
more characters.

Otherwise, what is the difference if you use a touchtone phone or a
terminal? In any case, there are limits to what can be done with
EasyTouch - nothing earth shattering.

233.14Easy Touch now lets you know the last 5 checks to clear...BTOVT::EDSON_DTime for a DCU Coup!Wed Sep 25 1991 18:0211
Recently a note was posted at the BTO DCU branch. Easy Touch lets
you know the last 5 checks that have cleared. The procedure is (after
    entering badge number, etc.);

    Transaction type: 1#
    Type of inquiry: 4#
    Savings Number: 5#

    Thanks DCU!!!

    Don

Note, you can also respond with 5# to Type of INquiry, to get info on
your last payroll posting (both net and deductions), and 6# to get info
    on last deposit...

Bravo DCU, you have won at least one point back from me...

I have a suggestion for the "last 5 cleared checks" dialogue.
Easytouch should list them LIFO instead of FIFO. If I call
    on Tuesday and get:

check number 825 for $28.10 cleared on 11/8
check number 826 for $100.00 cleared on 11/8
check number 87365 for $1100.10 cleared on 11/9
check number 830 for $40.40 cleared on 11/10
check number 831 for $128.00 cleared on 11/10

and then call on Friday, it starts of as:

check number 87365 for $1100.10 cleared on 11/9
check number 830 for $40.40 cleared on 11/10
check number 831 for $128.00 cleared on 11/10
check number 827 for $12.00 cleared on 11/11
check number 828 for $18.00 cleared on 11/11

If they came out LIFO, I'd cut it off when it got to something
    I knew about.

I'll second the request for LIFO (I just reopened my checking account,
so I haven't used the new Easytouch option yet).

LIFO seems to be the way other banks are doing this, for exactly the
reason specified in .18 (i.e., you can cut it off when you get to a
transaction that you already know about).

Vikas, why do you like the current way better?

Bob
233.22STAR::FERLANDECamds as your cluster mgmt toolThu Nov 17 1994 08:5314

I like the current way for checks mainly because if it starts with a
number that I know I've already "marked" as returned, then I don't have
to go through and try and "find" which ones cleared and which haven't.
Not that it really matters, I usually can take the balance and figure
    it out anyways...

On the other hand, the new option for Last 5 deposits - I think that
should be given in reverse order...

Because I keep track of the checks in the order in which they are
cleared without having the checkbook in front of me.
