224.0. "Safety Deposit Boxes?" by DATABS::BALLOU (Nat Ballou) Tue Aug 14 1990 10:20

Does DCU have any safety deposit boxes? If so, what sites?

If not, do others use another bank for such purposes? Do
you need an account with the bank to hold a box?

    Any help would be appreciated,
      Nat

I doubt DCU has safe deposit boxes; it's not included in their list of
    services.

I rent one from Shawmut for $28/yr. I have no accounts with them and
do no other business with them. They just were the only bank in town
who had available boxes to rent the year I first rented. BTW, the rent
started out at a fraction of that rate. The rent increased each year
for about three years, then seems to have held steady for about three
    years.

I use the BayBank Middlesex in downtown Maynard, because it's the
most convenient bank to use on a Saturday. I have no account
with Middlesex, but do use their services for all my teller
transactions which are transferred to Harvard Trust, another
BayBank.

Thanks, all. I guess I'll look to another bank for this
    service...

I think it is important to remember what DCU is. It is a credit union, not
a bank. I belong to 4 credit unions and none of them offer safe deposit boxes.
