| If it is not convenient, then DCU has absolutely no advantage over any
other bank or S&L.

What is the problem with Baybanks? I have had both a DCU and Baybank
account for 4 years with no problems. I have direct deposit to
Baybank, keep a $500 minimum and pay NO service charge. There must be
a Baybank ATM on every other street corner and you can buy Mobil gas at
the cash discount. I use the DCU account for "big ticket items" such
as mortgage, paying off credit cards each month. Actually, if I could
get DEC to do direct deposit to TWO accounts, I would leave the DCU and
go with Dreyfuss World Wide Money Market.

211.3 | I'd never quit Baybanks for DCU | GEMINI::GIBSON | | Mon Apr 23 1990 17:28 | 20 |
| I have had a Baybanks account for 13 years, and they have never made
a mistake on my account. With my direct deposit I can get my balance
down to 2 cents and only pay $3.50 per month service charge. I pay 1%
less on my car loan by letting them debit my account. I stop by
any one of about 15 convenient money machines on the way to or from
work, plus I get my cancelled checks back. In the 6 years I've had
direct deposit from DEC, my money only missed the posting date twice.
Knowing what I know about the FED and direct deposit and how
unforgiving and inflexible they are about deadlines, it was probably
due to a creation date and time on a tape to NEACH (which, by the way,
are created by DCU) rather than a problem with the bank.
DCU is my travel savings account, and allows me to cash a check if I want
during the day. It is strictly a convenience to have automatic
deduction into a savings account. I would never do my primary banking
where I work.

Why not? Just curious.
I used to love Baybanks, but left them after a couple of bad experiences
with their credit card bureau. I keep a non-DCU account for my wife's
convenience (People's -- $100 minimum/no fee), but for my own banking
I'm perfectly happy with DCU -- having a machine near my office and a
branch in my building complex makes the DCU more convenient than any
other bank -- and that's near the top of my list of requirements.
Enjoy,
Larry

Response to 211.6
Before DCU opens a branch office or installs an Easy
Cash24 ATM machine, certain guidelines must be met to
determine its feasibility. While the follwoing are
guidelines, there may be other factors specific to a
certain area or facility that we will consider:
Branch office
- Digital Equitpment Corporation-owned building
- DCU Board/Budget approval
- facility population--must be at least 1,000
- allocation of at least 1,000 sq. ft. of space in a
lobby or employee entrance
- facility must be willing to pay all set-up costs
In 1987, DCU was contacted by Chicago-area Digital
employees interested in a DCU branch office. We
provided branch specifications and other pertinent
information. Since we have not received a response to
our information, we presumed that there was a decrease
of interest in a branch office.
With the many economic challenges facing DCU as well as
Digital, DCU is limiting the expansion of our branch
offices.
ATM machine
- Digital Equipment Corporation-owned building
- DCU Board/Budget approval
- facility population -- must be at least 1,000
- allocation of space in a lobby or employee entrance
with 24-hour access
- facility must be willing to pay for set up costs
- in order to justify additional personnel to service an
ATM, DCU requires at least one other ATM or branch
location in the area
If you have addtional questions, please contact Mary
Madden at DTN/223-6735, ext. 207 or 508/493-6735, ext.
207.

211.8 | Allocation seems strange | MIMS::LIBOVE | | Thu Nov 04 1993 16:08 | 23 |
| Recently, we saw an announcement that a new ATM had been installed
in another building at a site which already had an ATM in one of
its buildings...
Here I sit in Atlanta, with a credit union office (thank heaven -
I know that makes me more fortunate than many other Digital sites)
and zero ATMs...
Why are sites with ATMs getting more ATMs, and ATM-less sites remain
ATM-less?
(My site, ALF, has >1000 employees, full time security, etc etc)
P.S. I wrote a letter to the president of the DCU and complained
about this, and his answer (delivered via telephone call from the
manager of the local DCU branch) was that he agrees that ALF should
have an ATM (he did NOT answer my question about WHY the site with
an ATM had gotten another one) and he promised that ALF would get
one in the next year. Of course, we've been told that we're "in line"
to get an ATM for over two years now...

Ooops. Charlie still doesn't get it does he. If I were to ask
HIM a question I wouldn't be satisfied with receiving the answer
from one of his subordinates. An answer to the question is only
part of what it takes to satisfy the customer.
