I deposited a check I had received from Jordan Marsh about 2 weeks ago into my
DCU account and this weekend received a notice along with the check from DCU
stating that it could not be paid for the reason that... "FUNDS HELD- COURT
ORDER" After a minute I realised that it was because Campeau(sp??) had filed
Chapter 11 last week and since he owns Jordan Marsh, I can't get my money
along with thousands of other debtors! The part that really stinks it that
DCU charged me $5 on account of this check that Jordan Marsh can't pay!
I realise that this charge is clearly stated in their fee schedule and it is
fair for them to charge some kind of handling fee but $5??? Most banks
charge less for a monthly service charge on a checking account and DCU is
charging that much for a check that came back with non-suffucient funds
and it's not even my fault!
Like their 'Fee schedule' says "Life is full of surprises!!!"

ps: the check from JM was from a credit I had in my JM charge account!
Now I wish I had used it up!

re: .0 $5 is cheap. Most banks in Dallas charge from $10 - $20. I do agree that it seems 'unfair', since you didn't cause the check to be uncollectible. I suspect that the $5 closely approximates the cost of the 'exeception processing' that the check underwent and that other banks actually make a profit on the charges when this occurs. Bob | |||||
