190.0. "how enforce parking at LKG" by REGENT::MERRILL (I fought the lawn and the lawn won.) Fri Jul 28 1989 15:51

The DCU location at LKG is on my way to work, BUT the parking spaces
labeled "15 minute DCU parking" are always full, yet there are only
one or two people AT DCU. AND the "handicapped" slots are also full
of cars with no wheelchair sticker.

How could security "enforce", say, a 30 minute rule?

Chalking the tires in the traditional manner would require a guard
    constantly on duty ...

Parking Meters would be a surcharge on DCU users ...

How about a simple signup list in the DCU area? Initial the slot
you've used, then any slot not turned over would be obvious! This
is not for rigorous enforcement, just a little feedback.

190.1"FREE" parking meters existPOBOX::KAPLOWSet the WAYBACK machine for 1982Fri Jul 28 1989 16:5216
I've seen parking meters that don't take any coins used for this
purpose. Just twist the knob and it will register some pre-set
limit. Anyone parking there longer will get "red flagged".
Security or local police must then deal with them in such a manner
that they quickly decide to park elsewhere. Big red sticker,
        expensive ticket, towing, etc.

As to the handicapped slots, a call to the local police will
probably find them eager to fill their ticket pads. Soon the bozos
will find another place to park. I've always assumed that
able-bodied folks parking in handicapped spaces were mentally
        handicapped.

Building security might also consider identifying and towing
repeated offenders. Once the employees are identified, an "open
door" invitation might be in order.

I'd like to reopen this old topic. For the first time in almost 10 years,
I'm in a Digital facility with no DCU, the nearest being at TAY-2.
I've been there 4 times in the past 2 weeks, and each time the 8 spots have
been full for DCU parking. Each time, I was the only one in the DCU branch.
Two of the cars have been there each time. In talking to security, I
didn't get the impression that they were equipped to do anything (to their
credit, they did force a limousine driver to move - he was cleaning out his
car. Unfortunately, he moved to a fire lane instead).

Is this a DCU issue? DEC security? Any thoughts on what I can do to get
someone to do something?

J.

Did you mention this to anyone at the TAY branch? I think it's their issue
(speaking as an individual member, not for the board). I used to also visit
that branch, and thought the reserved parking for DCU was an excellent asset
to the branch.

Let us know what you find.

I'll certainly ask again. I felt like I was getting caught between DCU
and Digital security, neither of whom felt ownership for the problem. Before
I pushed, I wanted to ask here.

I also go to the DCU at TAY2. To the best of my memory I have always
found one of the DCU parking spots free. Maybe you are just jinxed.
