| The 10.9% rate was merely a come on rate to induce you to get the card,
a lot of banks do this when they first issue credit cards.

| I agree with Claude, I thought everyone knew that that was a teaser
rate. 13.9 is still low.

Yup. I got it knowing that in June it would go up. I'm glad it
only went to 13.9 actually.

How did you know it was going to go up in June. Did I miss something
when I signed on the dotted line? I realize that DCU reserves the
right to change the rate, but even an ARM (usually) has a 2% cap.
I just think that 3% in one lump increase is overkill. I'm sure
you'd agree if your balance due was up somewhere around your credit
limit.

Ah the leaflet or whatever it was that announced the VISA card, as well
as the newsletter that is given with the monthly statement (and maybe
the application itself) stated the 10.9% rate was only good 'till June
of this year, and that it would increase but that they didn't know at
the time.

Like Claude says, the leaflets said that the 10.9% rate was good
"only until June."
When every other VISA is up around 17%, with some no-fee ones at
around 19%, and the best rate *I've* found at all is 15.9% (through AAA),
this literally *screamed* to me that I should expect the rate to go
up (a lot) come June. 10.9% is just too far below the going rate.
It was, like someone said, a "teaser" - not the real rate they wanted
you at.
Even their *personal* loans are up around 16%.
Yes, ARM's usually have a cap, but you don't find Mortgage companies
or banks offering rates way way below everyone else either.

On the mailing everyone who has a DCU Visa received, it stated that
this new 13.9% rate was "guaranteed until January, 1990."
I think 13.9% is still very low. I'm expecting it to increase 1+
(probably 2+) percent again come January. So watch those Holiday
purchases!

Well Bob, I want you to know you are not alone I too fall into the
web. I was very surprised and unhappy when I got my notice. I had moved
all my other credit to this card because it was such a cheap rate.
Ok, ok.... It still is a cheap rate, the increase just caught me off
guard that's all! ;-)
Notes files are great now I don't feel like the only one!

174.9 | Citibank offerred lower rate | NUGGET::BRADSHAW | | Wed May 31 1989 14:17 | 12 |
| re .7--
Sean, I cancelled my Citibank Visa recently (19.?%!!) and they've
been calling me to entice me back--their latest offering was an account
that had the same interest rate (19%) for the 1st $1,000, then lowered
to 13.5 or 13.9 for any balance over $1,000. I wondered why they
hadn't offerred me this months ago when I had a "significant" amount
above $1K on my balance!!!!
I only mention this to point out that we may finally see some lowering
of rates by the "biggies" out there in order to remain more competitive.
