| FYI
There still isn't a DCU branch in Santa Clara, CA. Apparently they
haven't been able to get the space they need.

Re-Read .0. The question was not about her address, it was about DCU's
address. Some places will only deal with checks drawn on local
banks/credit unions.

RE: .0
I had that problem too, when I first moved to California, and had
an out-of-state personal address on my checks. I haven't had that
problem with a local personal address. Usually an explanation that
DCU DOES exist and LOTS of ID. solved the problem.
RE: .1
I was told recently the problem is DCU wants Santa Clara to pay to
get them set up and Santa Clara feels they should pay to set themselves
up. As I recall, DCU was supposed to open up a branch out here
about 2 years ago (see note 7). WELL, DCU, WILL WE EVER GET A BRANCH
OUT HERE?!!
RE: .2 & .3
There's also the Phoenix and Tempe branches in Arizona.

171.8 | I don't want DCUs address on my checks! | POBOX::KAPLOW | Set the WAYBACK machine for 1982 | Tue May 16 1989 18:51 | 8 |
| Actually, I kind of like it that the DCU address isn't on my
checks. Just what I need, a Illinois address and a Boston bank
address. Then I'd have out of state checks no matter where I was.
The lack of a bank address has kept anyone from ever treating my
DCU check as an out of state check here in the Chicago area. I
know that Banks can tell from the routing number on the bottom of
the check, but cashiers at K-Mart don't know what any of that
stuff means.

RE: 171.7
DCU would like to open a California branch which services
our west coast members. Currently, we are discussing the
possibility with a few California facilities based on our
cost projections as well as space and population
requirements. We are as anxious as our California
members to establish a California-based branch.

171.10 | Out of State Checks Not Accepted | BIG::SCHOTT | | Wed May 08 1991 11:06 | 8 |
| I just registered my cars this morning in Merrimack, NH.
I got a hard time because my checks (DCU) were out of state
checks and they don't accept them anymore. I finally got them
to take them, but if this is going to be a problem in the future,
I've got to get a new bank.
I thought my branch was in Nashua???

| Does anyone has a problem with the quality of their checks
these days. Ever time (80%+) we rip one out of the book it
does not tear cleanly.

| RE: .10
Isn't the DCU based out of Maynard, MA? While this isn't stated on the (DCU
printed) checks I think it can be determined from the routing number (or
whatever it's called) printed on the bottom of the checks.
I would tell the town clerk at Merrimack to take the check or take nothing
at all! :-) Tell the person you can just as easily bouce a check that is drawn
from a bank in NH just as easily as you can bounce one drawn on a bank in MA...

| For tax purposes, DCU is a Massachusetts bank if you live in Massachusetts
and a New Hampshire bank if you live in New Hampshire (both states treat
income from in-state banks differently from income from out-of-state banks).
When dealing with petty bureaucrats who won't listen to reason, the best
policy is to ask for their supervisor.

| Once you get new checks with your in-state address printed
on them, you won't have any problem. In fact, I encountered
the same problem when I moved from Mass to Colorado Springs
and still had my checks with my old Mass address on them.
Often it was sufficient for me to simply cross out my old
address and write in my local one, but once I got my new
checks, I never had a hassle.
I'd bet that this would work for ANY out of state bank a
well. (Unless the bank was something like "Kansas Bank and Trust"
where it was obvious that it was an out-of-state bank.)
