| I'll take the first reply, although my views should be known by
now.
o A change in the candidate selection process is needed. A nominating
committee should not be used. If a person does collect all signatures
reuired to be placed on the ballot, the person is still a dark
horse by statements placed on the acual ballot by the committee.
Also, people tend to distrust a committee choosen by a board viewed
to already be non-responsive to the needs of the member.
800 signatures [or whatever the count will be] is not too much.
It does demonstrate motivation and commitment.
my side note here. I did not get 800 signatures. I was
close. My bing on vacation immediatly followed by the
hospitalization of my campain manager during the period
didn't help!
o If this is gling to be a remote credit union with remote members,
we must do something to acomate these members. By that I mean
The ability of remote candidates to run for and become members
of the BOD. I would think that the BOD could teleconference its
meetings. Also, remote members need fairer treatment in the area
of ATMs. A study of the ecomonic impact of allowing a limited
amount of free Cirrus transactions to those members that do not
have a local branch.
o Open and honest communications between the BOD and the members
of DCU. The BOD should publish date/time/place of its meetings
as well as minutes of the meetings. It should allow member to
supply direct and indirect input. The Board should directly address
its members without use of a middle man.
One example of the Board being less than open with its members
is when the minium needed to draw interst in a checking account
was raised from $500 to $1000.
o Why are other credit unions more "attractive" than the DCU? By
that I mean why is my mortgage being held by Herritage Credit
Union and not the DCU? I have been a member of the Credit union
sence its start and yet another credit union that I never had
dealings with gave me a loan whereis I could not get it from DCU.
Why are other credit unions offering higher interest on savings
accounts than the DCU?

Save your first concern for last. I agree with the point entirely,
and I know you don't mean it to be self-serving, but there is no
way you can avoid that perception.
I'd move the third point to be first. Open communications is an
"apple pie" issue, difficult to argue against. You should come
up with more examples of the ways in which DCU has failed at
communication (new check hold policy, failure to bring our attention
to the fact that SHARE accounts now pay higher interest than SHAREDRAFT
accounts). There are also areas that couldn't be considered failures,
but where there's ample opportunity for innovative improvement.
For example, letting the members see the financial analysis that
goes into some of the controversial decisions.
Add: DCU needs a program of direct membership feedback to help set
priorities. There should be a complaint box in every office. There
should be a regular program for surveying the members on what they
want most. There should be an independently-run survey of the quality
of DCU services.
